Title: Vodaphone Doggle
Post by: alfie on 20 May 2010, 19:33:56
Hi everyone, its me in the poo again,My local vodaphone shop (near Newport) sold me a doggle thing for my pc this afternoon, saying that I would get a good signal at home from it,at least 4 bar strenght.
What a load of codswallop! ! 1 to 2 bars at max, causing it to be slow, lose the page etc.
Anyhow phoned customer service dept and explained the problem, they said go back to shop and they will cancel the contract.
So jump back into miggy and of we go,same guy still working there, explained problem again,he phoned his manager at home who must have told him to tell me tough luck, 1 bar is fine.
Now I was nearly ready to do serious damage to this guy,my temper was in the red zone,so I wiselyleft the building, telling him that I would return next day,
Any helpful suggestions that I could put to this manager, would be gratefully received.
Alfie.

Get back to customer service and insist they cancel over the phone -- you can throw drop the dongle off at the shop afterwards !

Vodafone's coverage map on their site is an utter work of fiction.  Apparently, I can receive a good indoor signal in my house according to them, in reality, I can't really get a usable signal within a mile of here.

Other places I struggle with signal strength, their coverage map says I should be able to get something...

Returned to the shop this morning, but no joy,the manager a complete ao.
Contacted consumer direct and their advice is to write to head office and the supplying shop stating that I had been sold this service by deceit.
I wish to cancel the contract because I had  been told that my sevice would be strong, thus I have a case under the 1967 Sale Misrepresentation Act.
I will write these letters over this weekend,by the way,the 7 day cooling off period only applys for phone
web sales.

I have a '3' dongle and it works fine, even in North Yorkshire, Ripon, where my 02 phone will struggle to get a signal in our caravan (static).  '3' have just offered me an upgraded, better one for free it I renew my contract, I will be taking them up on their offer...... :y

You sure about that 7 day policy applying only to phones, I thought all contracts had an obligatory 7 day cooling off period...
Quoting the forum page above "For any other customers out there considering a 3G Dongle contract, remember you do have a 7 day cooling off period to test the device and if you're dissatisfied with the speed or coverage, you can always test it in this time and return the device to cancel the agreement in full"

Considering that is from a Voda representative, that is in writing, you should be able to push them into giving you a refund...  Don't be afraid to shout at them either (works very well in a full shop  ::)  Not that I would ever have done that one... lol...)...

The 7 days cooling off period only seems to apply to phone or web sales,(distance sales).

The voda web page previously referenced, refers to a broadband dongle purchased instore.  However, there doesn't appear to be a statutory cooling off period, but, I personally would make a fuss with as many people in the shop as possible to make them think twice...

Got a Result, just had a call from the shop manager calling to let me know that he,d talked to his area manager and on this one occasion,he would cancel the agreement.
How very bloodly nice of him!. The letter that I,d wrote quoteing the 1967 misrepresetation act, did the trick I guess.
I also send one to customer services, so maybe he will get some stick from them. So at the moment I am  feeling pretty pleased with myself, and about time to.
Thanks for all the positive replys and help.
Alfie.
