I had two mk2's, four speed hatch and 5 speed saloon. as I remember the five speed gearbox 1.6 was pretty quick for engine size. I bought the four speed as a replacement and it seemed to be a worse gearbox. Slower at traffic lights and it didnt like the M60 much.Died at 80k. Had to pay a scrap yard to take it away in the end.

First car I drove after passing my test was one of those. It was on an E-plate and was my Dad's, a 1.6l 5spd hatch.
