Someone you know I can bet. Someone has been watching your garage, so look nearby.

I really feel for you mate. I have only had one car stolen and I was livid for about 6 months, and even angrier when the police found it - wrecked!

Sorry m8.....never had one stolen....it must be crap for you  :'(

I'd go along with Ronnie....well maybe not someone you know....but they certainly knew what was in the garage....i assume they took it away on a trailer.....not something you usually take with you if just breaking into garages on the off chance.

Sorry to hear of you bad luck mate  >:(

Thieving Barstewards like everyone else so far has said must be someone who knows you or seen what you've been doing.

I am guessing the Police are now involved and dusting the building if possible.

Hope you get your car back

thanks for your support guys - police are involved.

Not insured but money really isnt the issue - its my creative loss.

I dont hold out much hope it will be broken by now.

I think its someone that was local and watching it - i have a few leads i have someon following up - trawling scrapyards.

In the meantime if anyone sees on ebay anythng Rover VI related please pm me.

The engine was rebuilt by me and only has 48000miles on it.

Bad luck that.

Once played a prank on somebody many years ago who had an old jag in a row of 20 lock up garages, we swapped the number and pad lock for the one next door (one of his neighbours), the look on his face was a picture....

I hope you get ti back, clearly its somebody who has seen it all being done.

Whats the Rover VI the equivalent to is it the Rover 200?
Title: Re: STOLEN - MY PROJECT/BABY IS GONE
Post by: Markie on 08 August 2006, 14:27:34
yes

Its a 1996 rover 200 vi

Twin cam 16v vvc engine - the vvc part makes it special its similar to Hondas vtec ( high revving)

This car was owned by me since new - had been stored 5 years and i have been woriking to restore it sinze last year. Amoung other things it has MGZR 160 throttle bodies purpose made 17" alloys and the whole back end and front ends replaced by me so it actually looked like the 2003 model MG ZR 160.

So to be honest when the car is finished - if it gets finished it will be unique.

Needless to say it had HG replacement by me and boy was i proud of how much i had achieved myself.

My hunch is its already broken with the parts - eventually being sold on.

Gutted to hear.  Hope it turns up, and still in one piece.  I guess the ol' bill are just giving lip service, or are they trying?
Title: Re: STOLEN - MY PROJECT/BABY IS GONE
Post by: Markie on 08 August 2006, 15:52:56
I have trawled ebay with nothing showing either current or compelted.

This car will be in bits.

Intrestingly i found a card about 6 feet away - for car uplift, projects unfinished, scrap, and mot failures.

with a phone number

I have passed this on to old bill - and so far its lip service from them.

"if i could ( the victiim) talk to all the locals it would help as it may be a day or so untill an allocated car crime officer starts enquiries"

What makes this even more bizarre is Glasgow city centre is at a standstill with some sort of musical demo and theres police bikes, vans EVERYWHERE..... so much so some of the cop bikes are hired in and unmarked!

Good to know my not-so-insignificant-household tax bill goes to good use.

Sorry to hear about this Markiec…

No offence, but a 1996 Rover can’t be worth much to a scrappie, and actually having to bring along a pick-up vehicle for the job is more involving then just driving it off.

I would think this is a specialist job, someone was after your particular motor and had advanced information regarding the car and it’s location. Try narrowing it down if you can, do you remember who knew where it is stored? Did you give details on the Rover forum? Have you discussed it with anyone, etc…?

no offfence taken  ;)

alloys were woth £800 and its the uniqueness that was the value - alhough good vvc engines will make £500 - this was good.

im very guardd about where it is and no one had been taken to the place.....will post the full "incident" in a bit

cheers

ok so heres the story so far

read the thread for details about car.

I identified the car went when i parked at my old garage 2 miles from my house. I park there on work days when i cant get the omega in train car park.

I had been lucky in that since last wednesday i had mamaged to get a parking space.

so the rover was last seen wednesday in its home - i discovered today it had gone ( sometime in the last week)

when reporting this to the police they advised to speak with the neighbours today as i would be quicker doing this than they would!!?!

I sent my wife to do door to door today and the immediate neighbour tells the following@

man and child and dog turned up Monday 1pm in an old transit pick up with a winch on it and ramps. Bangs the door and turns to my neighbour...." is he in mate" he shouts "only i was meant to take this last thursday but had a funeral"...offers the neighbour a cigarette and says " never mind tell him i have got it - he knows where to get me and he said he was coming up to my yard to get the alloys"

Proceeds to force doors of garage, winch rover onto truck and drives off - as you do!!!!!

BALLS or what - no index but cracking description. Neighbour really thought i knew the guy!!

So obviously he knew exactly what was in there before he forced the door…

Sorry to hear about this.  The lack of interest showed by the Police is just typical.  Yet, if you were doing 35 in a 30 limit they would be all over you.  I have to wonder just what the force are paid for these days - it is certinally not detecting and dealing with crime that is for sure.

Hope you catch up with the car mate - there can't be that many MK2 pick up transits running about and wish you every success with this lead.

Whatever you do, make sure you stay within the law yourself - remember that the law seems to be on the side of the criminal these days!

My eyes are peeled for white flat bed Transit's with winches.

When you say MKII, roughly what reg plate would that be on, (Old R,S,T), just so's I know what I'm looking for?

A Transit that old is bound to be quite distinctive!

I think MkII trannies were made up to around B reg (1984), not quite sure when they started...

Hi Guys

thanks for your continued intrest and support on this one - very much appreciated - as are the many pm`s  :)

Been to darn dentists and kinda numb and not much happening on this since i last posted - awaiting a call from police to take further details - should be at some point today, i really feel that if this is generally how they deal with crime then its no wonder the figures are so bad.

Anyway must not ramble i will only dribble out my numb mouth!  :(

here are some pics in the meantime - specially for the scottish lads..... ;)

thanks again

really nice looking.... shame to think its in bits now.... >:(

Surely the local plod won't have that many transits of that type listed locally?

Maybe worth trying the local car transport services or recovery adverts in the local rag or yellow pages. - Then going to them and see what vehicals they have for towing / recovory

You say the wheels were custom have you tried doing a search for them alone only if you can find the wheels you maybe able find the car.

Just a suggestion were the wheels a specific make at all.

thought it was time for an update here  >:(

After 6 days and nights where my wonderful wife has searched constantly uncovering bits of information here and there and got a definite line of enquiry i have still not had ANY contact from the police. No promised visit, no promised ( on numerous occasions) callbacks

Despite the fact we have been doing there job, i would have thought that this would have made them more proactive!!!

Anyway Friday my wife ( through her social work background lol) approaches a local car thief that she kind of knows ( professionally) this guy is now straight and running a recovery business when the wife advised of the description and the fact the thief had a dog he replied " it wasnt a grey hound was it" clearly he has someone in mind.

We have got two possible areas that we have been advised are rife with broken cars - kind of unofficial scrapyards and my wife has been to one of them for a look but  didnt go in ( it was down a single track road on a farm in a barn)

Today i have decided enough is enough and despite her best efforts i really dont want her uncovering anything that will harm her. She has been doing this as i have been at work 10am to 7 pm everyday this week.

I lodged a complaint with the police divisional headquarters ths afternoon, about the lack of intrest and  feedback bearing in mind all the previous leads we have provided. Within 20 minutes i had a local inspector phone me regarding my complaint and within a further 10 minutes my first physical viewing of a cop as they came to my home!!

At the same time they are also now questioning our ex neighbour and star witness - who actually spoke to the thief

So moral of the story the cops need a boot up the back side to actually do any work.

Oh and they have decided 6 days after me telling them i had a buisness card found at the scene from a scrap yard...that they will take it away for fingerprinting  ::)

heres hoping next week brings pro active news....

If its down to pikeys, as you suspect, I doubt very much that the truck will be registered anywhere(it will probably be lots of bits of other trucks)

cheers guys as ever its appreciated

doubt we will see the car again.

So the purpose of this thread now is two fold.....

1.If you ever as a victim need to deal with the police - be polite, intelligent but very firm

and....

2.never assume anything is safe as this was garaged without battery, interior, steering wheel and sorn`ed

Nothings sacred  ::)

My hubby Philcavsri loves his mk2 cavs and spends hours working to keep them looking there best and we see them as a part of the family.

There's only one stop sign in Dunfermline, guess where the rozzers started hanging out?  ::)

Guess how many people got booked? Loads!!

How many accidents had there been there previously? None!!
