As I think a number of you will know, I love large engines and heavy engineering in general. The sight of a strong, powerful and pulsating 'very male' is very appealing and exciting 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-).
Well in my search for the world's biggest diesel engine I have found a great site. Just look at those beautifully machined parts!! :-* :-* :-*
http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl/
Enjoy! :-* :-*
PS Please try and forget this engine is of course made by a Japanese country!! ::) ::)

Is this JCB'S latest engine? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Mobil 1 5w30 oil is it?

Well I would certainly take advantage of any Vx oil deals to service that Di! :D :D ;)
-
Surely they could have made it a wee bit bigger ::)
-
Good stuff eh lizzie, imagine the oil tunning down your arm on that job when you undo the sump plug. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Imagine lugging the waste oil to the recycling centre afterwards!!
And what about the size of the filter..........
-
A great link E 8-) :-* - very enjoyable :y :y
-
Thanks for the link Lizzie......`wonderful to see such mechanical design and construction skills, `good to know there`s still (both) the need and the capabilities; even though (sadly for Britain) it is now overseas.
-
Powerful, yes, but at 102 RPM it's hardly a screamer, is it? ;)
A couple that rise the hackles on the back of my neck:

Not really. Then again, it's a blown V12. What could possibly go wrong, other than at the petrol pumps? :-*

Just LOVE the vid of the Hurri and Spit! Brings me out in goosebumps whenever I hear Merlins (or Griffins).
Loved the bit where the Hurri is doing the pass over the people on the hill, I was thinking 'they wouldn't be waving if those 8 Brownings opened up!' - then I saw it was cannon-equipped! 4 x 20mm?
The P51 was just an averagely good ground-attack aircraft with its Allison engine. It didn't REALLY 'fly' until they dropped the Merlin into it!

Yes, I have a PPL and that`s my own LongEz (heavily modified from Burt`s design) built by myself. ;)

Back to heavy engineering and the World's biggest truck
The Liebherr T 282B truck, a 224 ton monster with a massive 3650-horsepower diesel engine:

I heard a LongEz get refused permission to land at Lasham on Sunday while I was winch driving. Wasn't you, I hope? :-[

Well thank you kind lady, I try.............LOL!
(Sorry....)
Thats one hell of a thing to have to maintain too......wouldn't like to have the job of doing the m.o.t on that beastie!

I've been working on a power upgrade for one of our engines recently.
delivers 850HP at idle and 1500 HP at full chat
..... with 3100hp available for very short bursts.

that is the sound of a two stroke deisel fantastic

ok it may not be heavy engineering but 8000 hp from 8 liters isnt bad going

I have reckoned that the German made film Das Boot is an absolute classic and may just be the best war film ever made,
Anyway apart from anything else I love the engine room scenes. There is one scene were Johnna listens to the banks of lovely sounding engines after a major repair, but unfortunately I cannot find it on Youtube! So I post another scene which incudes a couple of glimpses of those engines. Just listen to those beautiful beasties!! :-* :-* :-*:

Even better with a V16 as well

this is proper engineering and where my roots are.
My great grandfarther was an enginer at Burrells. I've been on the foot plates of a couple of engines and they are a right bugger to steer.
The show engines i think are the best.
