Title: Heavy Engineering!
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 28 May 2010, 08:10:45
As I think a number of you will know, I love large engines and heavy engineering in general.   The sight of a strong, powerful and pulsating 'very male' is very appealing and exciting 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-).

Well in my search for the world's biggest diesel engine I have found a great site.  Just look at those beautifully machined parts!! :-* :-* :-*

http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl/

Enjoy! :-* :-*

PS  Please try and forget this engine is of course made by a Japanese country!!  ::) ::)

Thanks for the link Lizzie......`wonderful to see such mechanical design and construction skills, `good to know there`s still (both) the need and the capabilities; even though (sadly for Britain) it is now overseas.

Powerful, yes, but at 102 RPM it's hardly a screamer, is it? ;)

A couple that rise the hackles on the back of my neck:

Not really. Then again, it's a blown V12. What could possibly go wrong, other than at the petrol pumps? :-*

Just LOVE the vid of the Hurri and Spit! Brings me out in goosebumps whenever I hear Merlins (or Griffins).

Loved the bit where the Hurri is doing the pass over the people on the hill, I was thinking 'they wouldn't be waving if those 8 Brownings opened up!' - then I saw it was cannon-equipped! 4 x 20mm?

The P51 was just an averagely good ground-attack aircraft with its Allison engine. It didn't REALLY 'fly' until they dropped the Merlin into it!

I've been working on a power upgrade for one of our engines recently.

delivers 850HP at idle and 1500 HP at full chat
..... with 3100hp available for very short bursts.

I have reckoned that the German made film Das Boot is an absolute classic and may just be the best war film ever made,

Anyway apart from anything else I love the engine room scenes.  There is one scene were Johnna listens to the banks of lovely sounding engines after a major repair, but unfortunately I cannot find it on Youtube!  So I post another scene which incudes a couple of glimpses of those engines.  Just listen to those beautiful beasties!! :-* :-* :-*:

this is proper engineering and where my roots are.

My great grandfarther was an enginer at Burrells. I've been on the foot plates of a couple of engines and they are a right bugger to steer.

The show engines i think are the best.
