.....Just got a summons to go to court next month for non payment, silly me thought it just came out automatic from account through DD, but no, have to set it up each year, they sent me a reminder 13th April while I was on holiday, giving seven days to pay, which I could'nt have done anyway, have only just opened that letter :-X, will need to call them on Tuesday, see if they'll be lenient with me, gotta pay an extra £65 for friggin court costs aswell, might see if I can get away with that one ::)

It should just continue Mike, mine does ::) as do my water rates etc, think you might suggest that they have made an error............

They may NOT let you set up another , but as it is so early in the year, only a month overdue I think they will.
May ask you to pay April's instalment and May's immediatley and the rest over the following 8 months. As for the court costs they will NOT charge you that if sorted well before court date as you will NOT be going to court.
-
mine just rolls over, the DD will stay in place from year to year as long as they notify you of payment changes which they have done.
I would contact them and see what they say if not go to court and produce last 12 months banks statements showing you were paying by DD and that the DD is setup on your bank account
-
Yep as he said mine comes out auto each year don't have to set up each year.
-
As the others have said -- DD should roll over -- methinks your council has messed up.
-
I know from personal experience that if you have ever "non-payed" before that they don't have to provide the instalment facility.
-
I called my bank and they said there was no DD set up, they said i had to tell them and set it up. But I thought that the Council would just request. Will wait and see what the Council say on Tuesday.
Can't find the original payment letter think I binned it, thinking everything was OK. :-X
-
sod -um ;D
take a stand and go to court , fight your corner . tell them your not paying and are willing to go to jail , ;D
we will all back you up . and even bake you a cake with a file in it :D :D
but seriously just phone then on Tue they will sort it out :y

They should be able to advise if it was setup before and who cancelled it.
It should show it was the council, so you are in the clear if it does :y

Check it out Mike, as others have said, mine just rolls over year on year, paid it this way going on 6 years and never had to re-new the DD

Are you confusing Standing Orders and Direct Debits?
You set up the former with your bank so you GIVE the money.
Recipient sets up the latter so they TAKE the money.

Unless you changed your bank details without telling them, or had insufficient funds to cover their DDs I would say it was their fault then.
If it's genuinely a case of you being away from home when the bills/reminders came in and you have no history of non-payment they should back off and let you pay immediately. (IMHO :))
