Yes, yes. I know. But it had to be done so here it is once and for all.
So guys and gals. What oil do you use? By cheap and nasty I think you all know what I mean, you know that stuff you get for £3 a gallon from the local motor accessory shop.
No fighting now ladies. Just straight talk. This is not a what is best thread, just a what do you use poll. We don't need any silly opinions because we all know that semi-synth is best. so there! ;)
-
Not bothered about the make any 10/40 semi-synthetic will do
-
What about putting Acmesuperantisqueak into the poll, I buy it by the tankerload! >:(
-
11p tomato soup from Aldi? ;D
-
Somebody's rich on here, we're getting votes for fully synth! :o

Hands up, that was me. :-[
That's what i'm running just now, but apparently i can save a packet by using semi, which some people claim is just as good, then i could afford Heinz tomato soup instead of the 11p Aldi pish. My mouth is watering at the thought. ;D
-
For me it is fully synthetic ester based Motul 300V chrono 10W40.

So? As if we care :( ;D

Well, having heard Kostas' engine, I would say his choice of oil is spot on. ;)

Hee Hee you just couldnt let it go could you .... :)
Semi here too - every time
-
Vx own brand semi for me. Goes in the Omega, the Rover, the ZX-10 and the lawn mower. No wonder I always have gallons of the stuff around....
-
You need to be careful putting car oil in a motorbike. If the bike has a wet clutch the oil can make it slip. Motorcycle oil is different.
-
It is wet clutch, and doesn't slip. The oil spec is correct, and works well. Oil in ZX-10 gets changed every 2 - 3k as well (Kawasaki recommend 4k). The only bike I've had that needed a specific oil was an old Yamaha

Its good stuff that, my facelift felt a lot better after we did the change. Think i will use Gen GM stuff... even better when you can get it at trade prices ;)
-
I dont think anyones going to admit putting cheap and nasty oil in :-/
So I'll confess ::)
I did chuck 1ltr of summat in bought in the Co-op, dont even think it was semi synth :-[ , but was 10-40
However it was a Sunday afternoon and thought any oil is better than low on oil....and it did get changed a few days later....so think i got away with that :)

Thanks mate !!!! ;)
-
Vx fully synth, at 5K service intervals, I prefer it over the semi synth.....both engines are as sweet as a nut on it.....as was the old Nova 1.2!
Plus for what little extra it costs and in relation to the cost of the car I dont think its worth cutting corners on oil.
-
I'll stick to semi, as the zx10 leaks worse on fully synth!
(prob is with bike, not the oil - just fully synth finds these problems more than semi does)
-
My late father in law worked for the local Vauxhal dealer and when I had my Sunbeam he supplied me some FOC VX mineral oil.
It used to burn this - however it ran out I returned to Esso Superlube and had no burning issues.
I wouldn't use any mineral except Esso Superlub
The Omegas have all had VX Semi synthetic, Carlton had SUperlube

whatevers free in the workshop!!!!!!!!!
-
I always used to use Castrol Magnatec. Since then I read on "the other place" and here that the Vaux semi synth stuff is best so that is what goes in now.
Still use Castrol for my van and minibuses though.
-
I use..... erm....... Marks Drive! ;D

I am one of the full-synth guys. Personally, I would be very happy with semi-synth. Unfortunately my Vx dealer uses nothing else other than Mobile-1 5W/40, for which it charges £55 per 5.5L.... >:(
Then again I might ask you to lend me that fancy trolly jack of yours and do the job myself next time... :)
