Title: It's that time of the year .........
Post by: Seth on 07 June 2010, 10:54:26
It's my last shift at work this evening, after 13 consecutive days duty - four of these being Rest Days worked at enhanced pay rates.

Tomorrow is a 'hidden' 14th day, so it's a day at home on full pay, followed by two Annual Leave Days, then five consecutive Rest Days. After 0040 hours tomorrow morning, I don't return until the afternoon of Wednesday 16 June.

Whilst the extra dosh always comes in handy, our beloved Welland Steam Rally is now just over six weeks away.

The very welcome time off work will see proceedings 'go into overdrive' in 'Sethsmates Workshop' with a huge array of preparatory tasks to be completed, including some new signage for the public campsite at the event.
Our newly-acquired 'hospitality unit' has already been successfully trialled, and attending OOFers will be welcome to join in the nightly BBQs and 'wind-up' banter and beer!

Here's the said establishment:  http://www.galatent.co.uk/more_details.asp?ItemCode=00703

There's also our 9ft trailer to heavily modify, and I'll be changing the front discs/pads on our VW Caddy van tomorrow.
Mrs Sethsmate will be driving this combination to Welland, with me in charge of the latest 'tractor' and caravan.

All in all, a very busy though hopefully enjoyable few weeks .......... phew! :D

Forgot to mention ........
It looks like there's another little 'Gower holiday' next weekend too! :D :D :y :y

Not really 'my scene' these days missus - believe it or not!

Viv Corbin, a former colleague from my Western Welsh days, was launching his new book at the event, though I'll get my copy direct from him soon. A lovely chap, he's the curator at our former Barry depot, which is now a bus museum.

I was persuaded to 'grab' a most favourable Sunday turn instead.
It entailed one round trip: Cardiff/Barry Island/Merthyr/Cardiff with a four-car Sprinter formation.
Locked the rear two cars 'OOU' at Merthyr, as the 1938 departure was pretty quiet all the way back.

Uuuhh?
How will I know who you are? :-/

I take it that you're going for 'The Under Milk Wood' Run.
Take note missus, that very name was conceived by moi some years back, when I was heavily committed to the event, and the associated Swansea Festival of Transport - also suggested by moi. I even planned the dates, so as not to clash with other similar events.

"You live and learn" is an oft-quoted phrase, and it was time to move on. >:(

Looks like it's a weekend on Gower with 'the two little fellas' then.

Won't be telling 'em 'til we're ready to go though, as they were 'wound up like springs' last time.
Bless 'em! ;D

That marquee is similar to the 12mx6m one I'll be erecting in 3 weeks time! Always hard work though as ours is a cheaper version and there are only 4 pieces for the sides instead of 2m sections!

Aye, we went for the Gala version 'cos all parts are replaceable.
Gala have given us excellent after-sales service.

Plus I got fed up with repairing flimsy gazebos after returning home from Welland each year.
A certain OOFer actually managed to reverse a certain VW Caddy van into one last year.

No names mentioned, you understand, as things literally 'take off' at Sethsmate's BBQs!

When I lived near Bristol I used to go to the Nibley event, but I remember more the various automobile and steam events at Berkely Castle which were, weather permitting, also great events. 8-) 8-)

I liked the hill-top location at North Nibley.

We used to take my AEC Reliance there, obviously before I sold it.
The Commercial Vehicle section was always under the excellent supervision of Ken and Tony Faithfull from Chipping Sodbury.
A good bunch of lads, who still attend Welland each year.
