Can someone please confirm that the gaskets actually go into the covers dry, and that the sealant only goes on the specified parts of the heads? I removed the drivers side earlier and spent almost an hour picking the sealant off the cover once the gasket had been removed! :o

And when applying the sealent to the front cam bearings....make sure the small oil drain holes are not blocked by it.....

I couldn't believe the amount of stuff on there, and on first inspection there does not appear to be any sealant on the heads at all! Unbelieveable!!

I have found that, although probably applied correctly, on removal, the sealant seems to stick more to gasket and cover than the metal head...

It just seemed that the grooves in the covers had been filled with sealant before the gaskets were put in.
One other thing, can the cams and sprockets only fit together one way?
-
No.....looking at the engine from the front the cams are considered to be number 1 on the left (Bank 1-3-5 exhaust) through to number 4 on the right (Bank 2-4-6 exhaust).
If you look at the cam pullies they have two slots which will engage with the cams, next to each slot is a number.....you use the number which corresponds with the cam position.....the same applies to deciding which timing mark to use...
