Title: England's Rainbow Nation adventure?
Post by: Banjax on 09 June 2010, 09:45:45
2010 World Cup, how will England do - what we do know is that they will lose almost any penalty shoot-out so we have to assume they need an outright win in each of the knockout stages, easy group and easy second round game should see them safely to the quarters at least....if all goes to plan  :y

I like the team, you have a world class manager -  I think Rooney is genuinely world class and the tournament is far more interesting with England in it than not and I remember being gutted for you in 1990 which kind of changed my perspective - so yep I'll support England and I'd like to see them do well.....however much the english media grates on me (I think they forget that there are at least half a dozen teams better than England....until they go out and they start the witchhunt - my moneys on Rooney being the scapegoat this year - they'll find someone to pin the shattered dream on)  :y

I agree totally with that .... its not the team or anything like that .
Its the media that make me jolly cross , its like its there right to win it and how dare any one beat them .
Then like you say there will be the witch hunt or it will be the pitch at fault or the heat etc etc  ::)

I'm not really very interested in football.  But this tournament can be seen as survival training for the 2012 Olympic Games, in which I have even less interest.

If Eng-er-land can hang in there until, say, the quarter finals, and I can avoid alcohol poisoning or self-immolation by other means, I reckon I will be in good shape for avoiding the Olympics.   :)

Ne neither. We need a DILLIGAF option on the poll. ;)

It is interesting how this poll has panned out. Only three of us saying England will be winners.

If you posted the same thing on a forum in more or less any other country then the vast majority would have said winners. I think it says a lot about the psyche of the average Englishman. I bet the press are already drafting their how Rooney lost us the World Cup stories right now.

It's because England promise so much but then fail when they reach any decent opponents. They should be beating the likes of Spain, France and Italy consistently to be considered true contenders for the World Cup IMO

I'm surprised so many think England will go out at the quarters....looking at the draw it's probably only France - jesus - Scotland beat France regularly- in fact they even had to cheat to beat the Rep.of Ireland  ;D
