why can they not tell you anything when you ask. they have taken my mother down to theatre this morning at 9am, no explanation to my mum or any of us. so have to go out now to hosp, as they cant tell me nothing on the phone but said she will be down there till 4pm. >:( >:( >:(

Er cos they are useless?
If it was my mother I would be waiting outside the theatre door. haven't any happy experiences with any UK hospitals. My Dad is having his second hernia op sometime. Last one he nearly died from a total lack of nursing care.
Hope it goes well for you.

half way there, sister rings telling me not to go up there. shes having tests all day and they want her to rest after.
last week the nurse told her she was going home tea time, she was still sitting in a chair with drips in her arm and an oxygen mask on. me and my aunt were furious and they had to admit they mixed my mum up with someone else, nurse walking along picking her nose, 2 kids running up and down the corridor of the ward, and not a thing said till my aunt went and had a go at the kids then the nurse. i get very stressed just thinking of that hospital. >:( >:(

They can't operate without a signed consent form (assuming this is a real hospital). To get the signature they need to satisfy themselves that the patient (or a recognised advocate) understands the procedure that they intend to undertake.
If she's sectioned under the Mental Health Act then it's different. That allows the 'system' to make decisions for her.
Make sure that another family member isn't OKing stuff and keeping you out of the picture.
Hospitals are rarely funny! :(

trying to get information out of them is hard work. we did complain last week and they sent some idiot up from the office who gave us a load of ol bull and apologised. but to let a 76 yr old who has just had a massive heart attack sit there and not know whats going on is not acceptable in my opinion.

I may just be starting a case - the above link is helpful apart from the fact that the forms you needs are not the ones in the body of the text but the ones dated 2009 which appear when you click the panel on left.
Worth reading up on this. My issue is that they discharged my dad 2 weeks ago without properly assessing home situation to cope and he came out with some sort of bug (to be identified). My mother and carers could not cope so in desparation they checked into respite centre at £1200 per week.
If they are home in 2 weeks maybe not worth pursuing but something is wrong here. Social services were no help. Problem is made worse by older people getting fobbed off "they need the beds" - yes maybe but you are now out of pocket having claimed nothing all your life. Everything is such a battle.

this hospital has a bad record for cleanliness and germs, was one of the highest rates of T.B in the country a few years ago, they even had to close the maternity wing down it was so dirty, my aunt went in for treatment on her knee and left in a coffin,MRSA. my friends nan was discharged a couple of months ago and was found dead in her chair 3 days later.home help looked through window 3 days running and thought she had been asleep all that time, but she was dead just after being sent home. my dad refused to go there for his op.

The reason? Medical-in-confidence information. The person releasing such info has to be 100% that it is going to someone who has the right to know it. As identity is difficult to ascertain over the phone many hospitals have a no info over the phone policy unless to do so would endanger life.
It's a problem I have to deal with on a regular basis.

:( You must be unlucky in your hospitals -i've had both my parents and father-in-law in hospitals in Middlesbrough and Newcastle recently and i couldn't fault the care they all recieved.
