Title: Toast
Post by: waspy on 10 June 2010, 07:00:13
I've been out on this ship for nearly two weeks & the food is excellent, but i could murder some toast for breakfast. The breakfast options are good, but i haven't seen a loaf of bread once :( :'(
It surprizes me what you miss when your away from home, just the small things like toast ;D

Always take one sailing.  Lots of yachties take a breadmaker on long passages as the effect on morale is huge  :y

its amazing how much wheat we eat in this country, eastern europe, rarely see bread in restaurants or on the shelves and how much slimmer ther are, until they come over here and bloat out like the rest of us. Often miss bread when i go away. But yes, love toast. :)

Didn't know that about Eastern Europe and the bread issue Chris! ;) ;)

Bread is of course reckoned to be good for us, and our problem, I would think, is we eat the bread, then everything else in sight!! ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

Weather's been good so far. We've had one really good day when it was warm, but 90% of the time it's cool & overcast, though it's kept pretty dry :)

We had that force 4-5 last week that i mentioned (that was fun ;D)
In one respect i want it to stay good so that we can get all the work done (which also means i earn lots more for doing zip), but i'd like it to turn bad so we return back to shore for shelter which means we'd get a Heli out sooner so i can return home :-/ :-/ ;D

I have 2 slices with breakfast every day (prefer the crusts as well- and still using my 27 year rowneta toaster)

But the best toast was what my Granny used to make.  When we used to visit her and stay over she would have the fire on between 5 and 6 am and then slice us some doorsteps off a hovis tin loaf or one that she had made herself and just let us toast each side on the hot embers of the open fire, then spread lurpak on that had been softning by the fire.

eeeeee them were the days, when i were a lad.

and staurday night  up there (langley park) my Dad took us to the chippy, it was like going back in time, fish and chips done in dripping on a coke fired range.  Todate, the best fish and chips I can remember having.

Now you've got me going, I've just got out of bed about an hour ago (night shift) and I'm hungry.

Is it going to be beans on toast, or scrambled egg on there :-/

Think the beans are out if it's curry tonight :-[

Mick ;)

This is how cheese-on-toast is made in my house:

Grate a goodly amount of Cheddar with some other cheese, Double Gloucester is good, or Wensleydale, or red Leicester....

Mix with enough mayo to get to a thick but spreadable consistency

Add freshly ground black pepper, some nutmeg and a dollop of wholegrain mustard.

Spread this on some ready-made toast, as thick as you like, and under a hot grill it goes!

Around Christmas I like to add a spread of cranberry sauce before the cheese goes on, but watch it, it's like napalm after it's been under the grill!

This is NOT health food  :D
