What's the safest method apart from cash to receive a payment from someone, although cash I bet can be dodgy.
I may be wanting to receive a large amount soon few thousand £'s and thought about how to receive it.
Cash obviously, guaranteed bank or building society cheque, money transfer between my bank and theirs.
I was once told by my bank that personal cheques are never really clear, and stay in the system, even though they clear the funds on them. Don't know what they mean by that.
Any other way, what's the most secure and reliable? :y

As someone who works in a bank I can advise that a bank to bank transfer is the safest way to transfer money, as long as the other person has your bank sort code and account number.
Cash is a bit dodgy if your wallet was to get lost, and too be honest carrying around a few grand in my pocket would make me nervous. (was bad enough when I had to cash in the casino taking from ship and I was dropped off at the door of the bank for that)
A chq takes 7 working days to clear fully and can still be stopped even if they put their card details on it (unless done via special presentation which costs money to do) unless they have a very large chq guarantee card.
Bankers draft is a glorified chq and does nothing more than charge for the privilege of confirming the money was there when they wrote the draft as it can still be stopped.
If you need anymore help let me know, and if you want some ideas on what to do with the cash if you are looking to save it let me know :y

.............and if it is or not, expect the bank to ask where it has come from especially if you usually never have such large transactions passing through your account. All has something to do with the Inland Revenue and possible criminal connotations. ::) ::)

cash is king - just be sensible and dont leave it on a bus or wave it around - take it straight to the bank....and dont use one of those bright yellow canvas bags with a huge "£" or "$" sign on it ;D
