Title: Cornwall
Post by: Martin_1962 on 10 June 2010, 20:21:28
Just got back at the weekend from a week away.

Weather was lovely, food was good. And I have updated some of my Cornish pages on my site.

My cousin and his wife are now into gig racing, and a nice food place we use now grows their own beef as well as their own Jersey milk.

Lovely ice cream.

Ate a lot at a beach cafe, huge cheeseburger and cheesy chips, some of the family had bacon paninnis.

Monroe air shocks were brilliant, cams gave me a few mph up the steep hill just north of the Norway Inn and on the motorway hills. Car ran perfectly but still rattles the same.

Now have a water leak (OK on holiday) - can I borrow the OOF valve fitted coolant bottle cap please?

Down sides, 16mpg and my video camera is wearing out

A brilliant site we went there a few years on the trot. Have you done the Cliffe Walk to Mevi? Or been to Fowey? I took somme pictures there and posted them on here as it looked asthough we were abroad lol
Have/a/nice time

Devon & Cornawall just make us think of pi$$ing Perrenporth. We stopped at the Haven site nearby. Set up in beautiful sunshine, then we had horizontal rain for the next ten days, our daughter got an ear infection, wife got tonsillitus....... we've had better holidays  ;D  ;D  ;D

West End Pasties.... Helston just up the road from the train station (i'll try to get the address) the best there is - run by an old boy who wakes up every day at 4Am bakes till 9 then opens the shop, closes when all sold (usually around 12-1)

There the size of all creation & 2.50 buys you a biggun...

Actually we could start a new topic line - "Best Food & Where" -  :y

Philps in Hayle do do a perfectly edible Steak Pasty.

Actually, maybe they don't, maybe I should go and test another one whilst I'm down there next, just to check ::)

Ann's Pasty Shop on The Lizard used to do a good pasty, but last one I had from there was pretty poor.

Hmm. Pasties.  :-* Am taking note.

Thinking of a camping trip to Cornwall this summer. Anyone know any decent camp sites?

Not too rowdy, not too cramped, not too many ickle people running about, etc...

Had some good reports about "Deer Park" - one of the girls at the office went for a dirty weekend a few months back - not sure if its just cabins or if they have a touring park, either way worth a look....

I use http://www.calloose.co.uk/ at Leedstown halfway between Hayle and Helston. I don't go in Summer Holidays (Cornwall is PACKED then), and always fairly quiet when I go.  The pool has seen better days, and the clubhouse is 'functional' if you catch my drift, but the toilet/shower blocks are clean and roomy, and free (no search for 20p when it runs out at wrong time!).

Good location to explore the bottom part of Cornwall. Pasty from Philps in Hayle, Fish and Chips in St Ives in the evening, St Micheals Mount and Penzance just down the road, Lands End not far (but don't bother). If you are NT members, lots of coastline for walking along with free parking (non NT members have to pay). The Lizard is also just a few minutes drive.  Falmouth not far, nor is Truro. St Austell is about 40 mins, Eden Project about 10 mins more. Padstow is probably only 30 mins now that the A30 improvements around Indian Queens is complete, and is worth a quick visit imho.
