On a train.
First time I'd been on a train for about 10 years, I think. Journey up was OK - the 07:53 from Ipswich to Liverpool Street was half empty. But I don't understand - my internet purchased ticket came with a (free) seat reservation, but the train didn't actually have any reservations indicated on the seats, and someone was already installed in my seat.
The trip back (16:30 from Liverpool Street) was absolutely packed. Again, no seat reservations, but to my intense irritation, the seat allocated to me (already occupied) faced away from the direction of travel. I can't do that - makes me feel ill to travel backwards - I'd rather stand all the way. However, I was able to secure a forward facing seat, in which I sweltered for 65 minutes, as there didn't appear to be any ventilation, let alone airconditioning.
I couldn't be a regular train traveller - I don't possess enough technology to display to the world at large. :( :( :(
I enjoyed my day out in the City of London, though, apart from the 3˝ hours of exams I was doing. Very tiring for an old bloke, though.

i used to get the train into paddington every morning, i knew exactly where the doors opened, if i didnt get on that spot and get to a seat quick it was pure sardines, 2 carriage trains going into london is pathetic. then its the same on the underground once into paddington. i havent been in london since i took the kids and the x on the wheel and im not in a rush to go back again either. london is a rat infested dump.

i commuted for 2 years on Chiltern Trains into London Marylebone, line is small and not main line, rush hour trains only have 4 carriages!
I could time exactly when and where to get on, i always got a seat on every train, and their entire fleet was air-conditioned. Trains were very reliable too, in 2 years of commuting there was only 1 serious delay of 2 hours when signal box in London caught fire. Occasional 5 min delay here and there, but generally, excellent service. Be it an expensive & slow compared to others.
But nearly every morning there were delays on the radio on the drive to the station with West Coast Main line....

mine was pretty punctual but just 2 carriages from reading is not enough. coming home was worse, a packed platform all trying to get on the train after 5pm was a journey home hell.
whats the acton mainline like, very few trains stop there, even in rush hr

Not used it yet, (not got the flat yet) but won't be using it for commuting, just popping into London after work, so will be going against the flow :)
