Wish me luck! I'm off to see my Consultant in the morning. Last scan showed NFED & blood tests seem to confirm it ;D I'm expecting him to tell me to bugger off & not bother him anymore ::) What a bloody rollercoaster the last 3 years have been! My dear old Mum died of bowel cancer 5 years ago & her care under the NHS was diabolical except at the end when the Macmillan Nurses took over, they were brilliant! In my case however, the NHS has been the exact opposite, & my Consultant Surgeon & his team are IMHO the most gifted & dedicated people you could ever hope for! The new esophagus he made me out of my stomach is now working almost as well as the 'real' one, & apart from smaller amounts & some bulkier foods, I am eating normally again. There are minuses of course, I can no longer sleep lying flat or the contents of my upper intestine end up back in my mouth :D & I sometimes get the 'dumping syndrome' where my last meal isn't broken down by gastric juices but is instead 'dumped' straight into the large intestine & my body reacts by sending out a surge of insulin & adrenaline with some uncomfortable results :o Oh, & i'm now a very cheap night out as I can't drink large volumes anymore & alcohol goes straight into my bloodstream which means I now speak more s*** than I pass in the normal way!!!! ;D
Still, all small beer when taken in context with what could have been the 'other' outcome ! :P :y

awwww i am so pleased for you. Although ive never met you or really know you. i know how hard it is for someone struggling with this awful illness. I sadly lost my dad to cancer of the blood( non Hodgkins Lymphoma) 2 years ago after he fought for 7 years through everything, including chemo, hair loss. pain and numerous tests.
I have the utmost admiration for anyone who works in the field and those that beat this disease.
good luck hun and fingers crossed its a very good day for you tomorrow (im sure it will be) :y :y

Well done Phil, great news....... :y :y :y
Been there, done that, got the Scars and a couple of other problems as a result but all gone and clear. :y I too found the NHS brilliant, South Tees GH and North Tees, I see my Consultant every 6 months for, what I call my MOT :) And I also owe so much to the Macmillan Nurses for their continued support, particularly during bouts of poor health which sadly are quite freequent......But life goes on..... :y :y

Thankyou Vamps :y, & I absolutely echo those lovely sentiments exactly! :y I had no idea we were in a 'Brotherhood'? but it's great to find you are a survivor too!!! :y :y South Tees said my tumour was 'inoperable' & I literally scoured the World via the Internet to find a surgeon willing & able enough to help me, & finally found Prof Mike Griffin less than 40 miles away & literally at the 'last minute' as my tumour was massive by that time!!! (120mm x 160mm) :o:D and Thank God I did :) Interestingly, he had trained the Consultant Surgeon at South Tees!!!! ::)

Reached this thread quite late, Phil - it's wonderful to hear of a success story like yours, all the best for tomorrow. Lost too many brilliant people to cancer from family and friends. It's also fantastic to see your upbeat attitude to life, too many people think life owes them a favour :y

Smegmatt, i've just found this mate, so apologies for a late reply, but I have to say I really appreciated those words. You & all the other lovely people here have really given me & my family a massive 'Lift' both yesterday & today! Yes, I got a fantastic result from my Consultant, but I also got another, very unexpected one from you lot which means just as much! So Thanks mate, more than I can say :-[ :y
