Which are the jobs you would rather have someone else do for you?
1. Keeping the 2.5 rocker cover gasket in place when fitting to nearside .
2. Top bolt on Alternator for 2.5
3. Bottom bolt on nearside Wishbone on 2.5
I know there are many more!

Fitting an unmarked cambelt to a 2.6 with a non-adjustable pulley.
Without Kevin Woods' help, I'd be in a Home for the Bewildered by now. ;) ;D

Autobox change was he first major job I did on my old Mig. I took it out by myself with the aid of a trolley jack but it fell of the jack. It fell on my hand and I have a 3 inch scar to show for it. ::)
-
theres no bad job. its a labour of love and dedication...
-
How long have you been an Omega owner ? ::) :D ;D
-
Fitting an AR35, on your own, in the winter, outside.... that was bloody heavy...
-
fair play, maybe i'm spoiled, there's a guy round the corner ish that does all that stuff, 200 labour for rear crank seal and box service recently on another members car. Bargain imo. But a fair saving if diy. :y
-
i welcome these cars with open arms its all fun nothing is that bad to do on the mig it gets me out of the house to my garage 5 mile away from my house so the missus carnt nag me all weekend thank god they made these cars difficult to work on ;D fingers crossed she dont see this post or ill be deaded lol
-
the actual jobs I don't mind doing ...... it's wading through previous bodges that annoys me. Especially on anything that's been in Police service.
On a new police car, I pretty much immediately book a week-long "ex-piggery" event with it.
worst bodges :-
broken dual vertical air intake ducting
incorrectly-routed pipework in the vee
and my personal favourite, incorrectly-routed crank position sensor wiring
-
dont mind anything to be honest except one, the pigginbg top bolt on the starter on 2.5td when your underneath it just having heaved the box into position, after a clutch change,
there is just no way to do it from under the car, in fact its not even putting the bolt in its holding the bolt so you can get the nut on!!!! always found it necassary to have an assitant for this stupid job except when i superglued the nut to the starter!!

Cheers chris!, its not so much of a job for me than a pastime ;D, im now beginning to look like popeye & have an apetite for spinach,,,,ug-ug-ug-ug :D
-
Cant think of anything to bad......but yes, the previous bodges are always the worst thing to deal with.

This car
Dis pack twice
ABS ECU once but after 4 years it is failing and needs doing again
passenger side ex manifold
Thermostat B bolt
Gearbox twice (but sanity retained only by assistance from Omegatoy)
Heater matrix
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I will be opening the OOF academy soon for "sun sea and sangria" and the opportunity to fault find, practice on simple jobs like these mentioned above. Just need a few cheap V6 Minifacelift Elites for suckers students to work on.
-
Replacing a 2.5TD engine, leaving the gearbox in situ on the car ::)
-
Cleaning off the Pigeon Sh..............! :'(
-
rear bushes, left side exhaust manifold gasket, heater matrix (as above) etc etc..
-
Looking at the lists, and thinking about the manifold gaskets and rear donuts I have yet to do, but imminent......... :-[
-
I always find the worst job is always the next one I have to do on the miggy, or any car....................until I get on with it and just to whatever is necessary! ::) ::) :D :D ;)

Cleaning off the Pigeon Sh..............! :'(
pigeons? we must have eagles condors and teradactils round Slough. Regular bombing runs straight accross the car park. >:(

Pterodactyls - Having worked in Slough for 25 years that figures since there are many Neanderthals living there too ;)

close, couldn't be arsed to google it.
one or too in Reading as well. ;D
-
must be in the minority my ex plod 3.2 doesn't seem to have been butchered in same way others have perhaps lincs police actually look after their cars!!!!
-
Not too hard a job.......but a pain, is the "warm armpit" oil change syndrome....................on a V6.
or the "rounded off" paper element oil filter casing job. Nice.
-
ht leads are easy in my opinion, once you know how and so is auto box fluid and gasket change. havent had to do anything major yet, thats where a fire comes in handy ;)
everythings a learning game and patience

Doing the Head Gasket on a 2.5TD, getting it back together and running like a dream only to discover it was faulty and leaked >:( >:( >:( >:( I cannot put into words the complete and utter feeling of dejection I had at that point and I (honestly) put very serious thought into scrapping the bloody thing and buying a Rover 75.
Thankfully I saw the light and tackled it all over again, and in less than quarter of the time it took me originally. I really enjoyed it too!!!!
So, not really in the top ten of worse jobs, sorry to waste your time ;D :D :D ;D ::) ::)

Starter motor removal that requires removing an engine mount,to put it all back in again. How daft is that?

How on earth did you know! He must have been a right bodger, rounded off bolts everywhere and the ones that werent rounded were loose. I could swear there was also dried blood and skin off knuckles under there too ;D ;D ;D
ONLY JOKING JAIME :y :y :y :D ;) :) 8-) 8-)
-
You were right about the blood and skin. Not all of it mine - Omegatoy's, Kevin Wood's, Sassanach, Bo Bo, Jay W, LFF64 all lost blood, sweat, toil and skin in that engine bay ;D
-
taking the wrong part off and end up looking like a right fa**y :D :D.
I hate the smell of petrol love diesel simpler to work on :P :P :y

Clutch replacement on your own using a pair oftrolley jacks on a gravel driveway...
Bleeding said clutch through the "old fashioned way" and having to add the clutch fluid after every single pump of the clutch...
Adjusting the handbrake shoes, that poxy little star nut that refuses to release itself from the back of the spring...
Handbrake cable replacement - No space to swing the spanner, I ended up using every extension bar I own and then connecting to the air gun...
Following the Vx/BMW guide (TIS) for the removal/replacement of the Alternator belt... Removal not too bad, on replacement I snapped the tension arm trying to get everything back on...

Timing chains on a wheesel isn't at all fun ::)
