Title: code readers
Post by: scott456 on 21 June 2010, 00:11:27
hi people heres an idea that might help some of you out.
buy yourself an obd cable with usb off ebay there about £15 then download the tech2 software from the internet which is both legal and free then use a laptop with the software and cable to diagnose your own car then atleast you will no longer have to pay silly money for five minutes work

Beware that some readers offered on Ebay are illegal ripoffs of commercially available products though. The so-called cheapo tech2 leads to which you refer can be useful to get you out of a hole but are very tricky to get working properly due to poor software which is only partially translated into English.

A genuine Tech 2 is several orders of magnitude better. It does a lot more than just read codes.

The USB ones can be b*ggers to get working - if you are going this route far better to get a COM port one.

yes kevin i agree the tech 2 system is great but not everyone can afford the £3500 price tag for one and as most people these days have laptops and internet, my idea is far cheaper and as long as you download the correct software you should be fine
