I finally got a chance to put some mileage on my new MV6 today. I paid above the book price for it locally, after looking at loads of dogs.
'X' reg, but immaculate, lovely colour and spec (leather Recaro etc), NO rust, just had cambelt changed, rocker cover gaskets, breathers cleaned, two new front tyres, and 58K on the clock. Just given it an oil change and I did a coolant flush with new red coolant (thanks to the how-to guide on here) :y
Queing at the Dartford toll booths today and an artic drives into me whilst stationary! Only about 15mph, but rear offside quarter panel dented, prodrive spoiler ruined, and deep dents in the boot and bumper gouged. Amazingly the lights are unmarked and working. Driver said he hadn't seen me from so high up when he changed lanes. At least both he and the truck were English.
Bodyshop reckons 4 figures to fix, but of course the book value that insurance companies work from put these cars at peanuts really, so likely to be looking at being written off!
Should I buy it back from the insurer and repair it bit by bit? I really can't see myself finding another one as tidy as this. Totally, totally GUTTED. :'(

That's a great shame and so annoying! :'( :'( :'(
It will be written off no doubt ::) ::) :'(
At least you walked away from the accident. A woman in her car on a roundabout in Ashford today was crushed by a Sainsbury's artic that tipped on its side. She is seriously injured in the local hospital. :'( :'(

So annoying
If its cosmetic....why not try and get as much cash as possible out his insurance and get it sorted.
Its your car, you are claiming off his insurance, you have the right to have it put back as it was.

As Jimbob says .. you are claiming of HIS insurance NOT yours.
You have NO agreement with HIS insurers regarding what occurs. You can simply demand you are put in the stuation you were 10 seconds before he hit you. If they disagree simply ask them for the paperwork you signed where you agreed they had the right to decide what occurs. They can't show you any as it does not exist.
His insurance will pay for 3rd party damage.. thats your car.
You require the car reinstating. Simple.
If you were claiming off your OWN insurance it would be different as you have agreed with them that they can decide.
Fight them .. hard .. :)

No, and this Sainsbury's artic appears to have lost it tipping onto its offside, but travelling of course clockwise around the top of the junction :o :o
It would appear the car was swapping lanes, from the outside lane alongside the artic and he tried to avoid her. That is how the evidence seems to stack up anyhow, but we shall no doubt learn more later! ;) ;)

It's quite understandable that you're gutted HW :( - still you're uninjured, and that's the important thing :y
Hope you get an early resolution from the insurance company :y :y

I'm an artic & MV6 driver. Did he drive for a large company? I know for a fact the Royal mail don't even question a payout for an RTA @ 5K or below & that was 12 years ago. Get quotes from recognised bodyshops, an assessor will value the car then offset the repair quote. If it's a go ahead & not a write off you'll get a professional rebuild & paint with full oven rec (bake) all new trims, lights, panels, bumpers to modded spec. etc. & a free hire car to use for the duration. All at the artic drivers comany ins. expense.
Sadly they could write it off. I don't know the value of your car so we'll play with the figures:- Say you paid 4K for the car given it's low mileage, condition, history, spec. etc & you are offered 2K refuse it point blank, re state your case for a higher payout & wait, they will up it. If still not enough insist on an AA/RAC inspection to show pre collision condition. Be stubborn, stick to your guns & remember your ins co. are acting for you in claiming from his. Not sure on buying the car back after a payout, i think things have changed now but not sure. Also make sure if repaired your car is'nt cat C or D recorded as this will retract the car's value should you sell in the future.
Best of luck, Guy. :y

Have a look at Roger Budden prices, and mention MV6s are now getting rare

Unless the insurance company will offer you a 'cash' settlement and not record the accident, the car will either be a Cat C or D.
I had someone drive into my Galaxy before I sold it and although it had minor damage there was enough to write it off. The guy I dealt with from the other insurance company seemed reluctant to write it off and actually come and inspect the vehicle himself and offered me a cheque almost to the value that I paid for the car in the first place and to not record the accident. I was happy he was happy so sometimes you can deal with these people for the better, I guess it just dependes on circumstances at the time.
The problem with repairing a recorded Cat C or D is some insurance compainies wont insure you, some will only do it once the car has been VIC checked and then, should you have an accident again some companies will argue about the value of a write off. Can be a little troublesome.

when a van reversed into the side of mine just before christmas, the repair bill was £1400, it's insured for £2k so was borderline, depends on your insurers really
