Title: socket set tray advice
Post by: r1 on 07 July 2010, 18:23:06
just bought a socket set and the inside tray is flimsey and once this gets damaged all your sockets start moving around.so has anyone any ideas how to make this stronger?
my first thought was body filler but this is heavy and not very flexiable,so i thought of that expanding foam stuff, but am open to ideas
cheers

My 1st thought was resin, but may be heavy once filled,

Maybe this is one for Dr Debs  :y

My thought: Vaseline and RTV (aka: air curing silicone).

Coat the items (sockets, bars and ratchets etc.) with the petroleum jelly and after laying a smoothed and appropriately-deep bed of RTV (often available in black/grey) into the emptied socket case; press in the items in the layout order you wish, then leave for a full cure.
The flexibility of the cured RTV will hold-firm the items whilst making them not too hard to pull free.

*The vaseline is simply a mould release. ;)

I'm getting very worried at reading this......my local pharmacy has just told me he's out of it, because somebody bought the last 5 jars!!

Either he has read this thread like me, or there are some REALLY kinky people round here near Bristol!!
