On the 9th of this month i made the final payment of a 5 year bank loan. This is the last of 3 loans & a car finance & a loan to pay off car finance!!! The repayments were £155 per month so i've changed my savings a/c to an ISA. £50 a month goes there & the other £105 goes into the current a/c just to make things a tad easier. Only small figures i know but i have no credit cards & everything other than a modest mortgage is mine.
What i was paying out i'm now saving. :)

That should keep Roy in the style he's accustomed to mate.

They are NOT small figures Guy. Start thinking annually, like that tosser Martin Lewis does on the telly, and the figures soon add up.

reminds me of a bumper sticker i see on old bangers -
"my car may be old but it's paid for, and is in front of you"
;)

See if your bank has a regular saver scheme, You can get between 4%-8% on them at the moment, I am lucky and get staff rates but still 4% in the current market isn't bad and at the end you can chuck it into an ISA :y

Good news Guy :y
I do use credit cards, but always paid off monthly. Handy, for supposedly better protection for internet purchases. Not to mention the cashback/offers ::)
I don't like loans, who does? But sometimes they are a necessary evil. Always nice when they end :y

....
but i have no credit cards ......
I'd always be back & forwards to the cash machine ;D. Credit cards make life so much easier, ie you don't need to remember to go to the hole-in-wall before filling the car up. Mine's paid off in fulll each month but I do realise it could be a temptation to buy stuff you don't have the money for.

Fair comment
;D ;D ;D
We had one of the first 1000 cars off the line and there were loads of electrical issues with it, ended up giving it back and they replaced it FOC.
Second one much better, but had to sell when little un came along in 2006, no space in a MINI.....
Omega a much better family car.......!

I did, sadly & am aware of this. However i do have a very favourable overdraft facility with the bank should i need it. If i peed them off they might withdraw it.

I might change banks when all the stuff is sorted out with mum an dads house...I asked barclays for a temp overdraft on friday to see us through to pay day this week and even got the solicitor to write a letter showing how much i was gonna inherit in under a months time(good news that)...They said no but asked if would like to make an appointment to meet with an advisor to discuss what savings and investments are possible when i`m better off....I told em "see that red HSBC sign opposite?? I think i`ll go in there with the cheque and talk to them instead...." ;D ;D

As did we and still do I might add!! They are unlikely to do anything and hey, if they do most high street banks will match your account in about 15 minutes.
It's really surprising how it adds up,with the interest they pay you on it, we got about £4,500 back for the price of a stamp!
From my point of view the buggers would be unlikely to have paid out if I had claimed anway!
