Title: Any LG washing machine experts out there?
Post by: Varche on 13 July 2010, 11:16:37
My LG wm12225fd 7.5Kg washing machine has worked fine for 6 years but the other day developed a metallic scraping noise. Switched it off and whipped the rear and top covers off.

I thought it might be one of the drum locating springs or hangars.

It isn't! There is a 3 or 4 inch long piece of stiff wire projecting into the washing drum from the bottom rear looking in(you can't see it or feel it from the underneath. When you turn the motor shaft at the back it is this piece of wire that is causing the problem. It is scraping on the outside of the drum till it stops then it pokes through one of the holes!

Question. To dismantle the motor from the drum is it the single big bolt in the centre of the motor or the ring of bolts around that hold it to the drum?

Is there a manual anywhere on the Internet cos I can't find one?

Daft question ... have you/SWTSMBO been washing ladies underwear .. of the "over shoulder boulder holder" type ??? :)

In the past Mrs E's "supports" have shed the "underwires" which then get stuck in the drum, usually between the drum and the heating element ....  A very firm tug with a pair of pliers on the protruding portion has been sufficient to pull it clear.

The wires are about the length you describe and are usually covered in white plastic ....

Might not apply here ..but worth a thought ??

or it could be part of your heating element .. :(

:)

Cheap fixes are always the best ...  :)

Trouble is the new underwear will probably cost as much as new machine !!!

Or the old mangled bit. I have straightened it out as best I can, put a new curve on it by hammering it around a log. Once the gloss paint is dried it will be as good as new.  ;D ;D ;D

I fell foul of this situation several times. I :-[ My wife now puts her knocker stoppers in a pillowslip before washing.
