Title: Rubens Barrichello
Post by: Banjax on 13 July 2010, 13:14:44
I found it interesting that the most experienced F1 driver is the only one to beat the Stig round the Top Gear track in the reasonably priced car - the reason was he followed Stig's advice on the quickest line, all other F1 drivers have taken their own line through the big sweepy bend early in the lap. Rubeno presumably reasoning that the Stig knows the track better than anyone, unlike todays crop of perhaps more arrogant drivers?  ;)

A very smooth, accurate, un-hurried lap. It didnt look fast but clearly was.

it was a good lap until you look at hamiltons time in the wet 1-44.7,0.6 sec slower and they reckon a wet track cost 3 seconds.I am no lewis fan but he is quick

Did hamilton do it it the rain or a damp track, theory is he would still be quicker if thats the case.

Webber did it in torrential rain, Button did a lap when it was snowing if i recall  :y

Hamilton's lap was pretty wet too i remember, I doubt theyd be much quicker than a pro race driver who spends every week on that track tho like Sir Stigmund

Only them all racing on the same day in the same car on the same tyres in good wether will ever put that arguement to bed.

I still want to know when the TG presenters are going to post lap times to see how good they are.

i think he means this Rubens - Peter Paul Rubens, a prolific seventeenth-century Flemish Baroque painter, and a proponent of an extravagant Baroque style that emphasized movement, color, and sensuality. He is well-known for his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.

Considering he keeps up with the test drivers and Stig when testing that sounds like a pretty poor time.

I don't think the programme genre would allow the truth on that to be revealed if they did it. ::)

Hence the expression 'Rubanesque' to describe women with a 'fuller figure' (big arses)

He did 1.50 in the Liana, but he had Jason Dawe who is pretty hefty and Richard Hammond in the car at the same time IIRC.
