Copper nails works well.
There are also some nasty chemicals you can paint onto tree stumps and the like which works to
-
Cut it down, either dig up root or drill holes down in the leftover root and pour root killer into the holes (someone told me diesel is good for this).
If you cant cut it down, you can still drill holes into it (at a downward angle) and pour root killer into it, takes longer and could fall over one day.
Or, cut the branches off and set fire to it.
-
Copper nail/s take up to 2 years. Drill small hole deep into tree, push small pipe into hole and put the other end in a bucket of diesel. Capillary action will draw the diesel into the tree and kill it pretty quickly.
-
Drill a hole big enough to fit a piece of copper pipe (10mm or 13mm) about 4" long at an angle of say 35-40 deg, tap the piece of pipe into the hole and then fill the pipe with brake fluid. Top the pipe up every now and then. The copper pipe will kill the tree and the brake fluid will speed the process up :y

Nah, about an 10-20mm apart in a ring around the base and they start to die off in about 4 weeks.
And do not contaminate the soil :y

What I wood (geddit? ::)) like to know is, what's the poor bloody tree/s done to you to deserve this kind of treatment? :o:D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
Pity the day hire is so exspensive - I have allways wanted to have a go with one of these things

Seeing as the OP started life in Car chat I assumed he was doing a Fred Flintstone. ;D
Leaving the surrounding land free of harmful petro-chemicals might be a smart move? ;)
They had some guys on Rogue Traders using engine oil or diesel. Can't be a good example to follow surely?
-
I've always found a HESH-round works well for me
-
Are you allowed to kill/cut them down Doog?
Round here, 8am Sunday morning is the preferred time. No Council Preservation Officers around.
Not recommending, just commenting.
-
1) Tie a rope round the trunk....
2) Fetch a V8 powered vehicle...
;)

det cord is also effective, there is even a formula to work out how many turns you need depending on wood type and diameter. Best not use too much though, I have heard of trees flying up through the canope causing helecopter pilots to require a change in flying suit ::) ::)

as we speak, I've got an old Omega shell on it's way to our firing range for some (ahem) test work.
not allowed to say what it is, nor to take pictures, but suffice it to say, I'm not expecting it back - well, not in one piece anyway.
actually, a few weeks back, we managed to demolish a portakabin when testing 155 shells, and that was behind the gun. It seems the cabin didn't like the shock-wave

Heh Heh Heh.............The ex-military amongst us will know what I mean when I say use "blade" on it...........
Nuff said. no tree.no problem.

I can understand that. Set up an MTF in 4R only to have 3 AS90s set up 400m behind me and start firing 155 over my head.
We moved ;D

So, there we go. Plenty of
inconspicuous ways to kill a tree. ;)

Simply, let me care for it; my
green black fingers would soon kill it off! ;D

some VERY interesting stuff happening just now in AS-90 land.
we now have electronic circuits which will survive insde a shell at launch. all these shells now know where they are......!

if you want to kill a serious amount of trees just ask any tv cable company. At least they were once very adept at it. Roots? What roots?

Easy....
1. Buy/steal/borrow/hire chainsaw
2. cut tree into peices
3. place tree peices against nearest speed camera
4. add petrol to taste (at this point I like to add a tyre or two for extra flavor)
5. ignite.
6. search web for homemade explosives to remove tree-stump
7. film results & place on youtube
Result... dead tree, dead speed camera & loads of Kudos
