Actually Jaime you're correct - greater than 7˝ tonnes - 40 mph on single carriageway roads.  I'll rephrase my question - Can anyone tell me why all Morrisons' lorrys are speed limited to 40mph?  They cause havoc on dual carriageways and motorways!!

Mario never really happened due to lack of response (probably due to lack of notice on my part  :-[)

All HGV's are limited to 40mph on single carriageway roads, 50mph on dual carriageway & 60mph on a 3 lane motorway.
Many trucks ignore this & crack on but some companies, usually supermarket & tankers insist thier drivers keep to the  HGV limit so the driver has too. Guy.

Should bloody hope so if carrying a few 1000 gallons of go juice.

Empty ones are more dangerous actually.

Can someone tell me why the Morrison's on my commute could find the space for about a 500 car car park for their punters (of which I'm not one) but not the space for a decent loading bay for their deliveries, resulting in their trucks blocking the rather road for ages on end.

Their drivers must get some abuse. You can imagine the horns going when they decide to block the road at 5:30 when everyone's trying to get home. >:(

A friend used to be a driver for tesco and religiously stuck to the limits (it was after all his livelihood). One day as usual he had a great long tailback and pulled into a layby (as usual) to let them go by. A policecar stopped and said why are you going so slow when the road ahead is clear? It's the speed limit. Well next time make better progress. Will you defend me in court? Didn't think so, I will continue to obey the speed limit then......

Quite so Guy. I work for a supermarket and our own drivers have to stick to all the rules-which only adds to any other problems with late deliveries we might get. Some of the contract drivers might risk it but the law is the law and its their job theyd be risking so , whilst I too get frustrated when stuck behind one doing 40 when I could be doing 60, I do understand.

Thing is, a lorry doing 40 an a single carriageway is easy to overtake, for almost any car.

What causes frustration is when you get a stream of idiots following it who don't have the confidence to overtake, and are following so close that they can't see the opportunities to do so anyway.

There's also no space for those who do have better things to do to pick them off a couple at a time. >:(

Agreed. Problem is no one teaches people how to drive properly and have consideration for other drivers. In fact that extends to other aspects of life too.

ah yes, the lost art of overtaking!!!!Totally agree, but the stretch of road Im on about is notorious as whether it be the wagon doing 40 in front of you or all those Sunday drivers doing 45-50 instead of 60, the volume of traffic coming the other way presents far and few opportunites to overtake safely. (Is it just me but I work most Sundays so have I missed something, have they dropped all the legal speed limits by 10mph just for Sundays? Or is it just that that is when all th t*wats come out in the car? >:()

Hence why caravan tuggers get a bad name.

When I towed it was usually me that was getting held up by the car in front doing say 40mph, when I could do 50.

Yep. Was reminded of other driver's etiquette when confronted by a towing vehicle when I recently had a 14' car transporter on the back for the day. Van drivers carving up everyone behind me to get into the other lane at the lights.

Only for the 3.2 to haul it off the line and leave them looking stupid. ;D
