Watching something on BBC Four about camping. What has struck me is how big tents were back then compared to now.
So why was the Keswick inbreds a couple of years back moaning that everyone has big tents, when modern tents are tiny in comparision?

Thats because stupidity was bred into them! And from first hand experience, they need to brush up on their customer experience!

Big tents?? Back in the 60s I had my honeymoon (well before my wedding in 69) in Cornwall in a 2 man/woman/person bivvy - all the gear for two weeks fitted (squeezed) into the boot of my TR4!! No one had big tents in those days!

That's what happens when you haven't got two brain cells to rub together.

The old footage they were showing showed everyone had big frame tents, and trailer tents were more popular. Much like I remember as a child...

I watched the same programme. Did you see the two idiots camping in Wales in about 2ft of snow. It was probably filmed in July ::) ;D

Due to the limited gene pool

The tents were so big in those days to allow you to find a dry patch on the non sewn in ground sheet big enough to sleep on ;D ;D ;D

Still got the parents old frame tent up in the loft in Chez Wood senior somewhere, assuming it hasn't rotted away. Still got the trailer that used to carry it and all the other cr@p we took. The Triumph Herald that towed it is probably no longer around. Last sighted in about 1976, and it was mostly rot then. ;D
Seemed to take half the holiday to unpack.
Maybe we should return to Burns Farm for a '70's themed camping trip with the biggest frame tents we can find? [smiley=evil.gif]

I'd pay to see the wide collars, frilly shirt, loon pants with buttons, and platform shoes again!!
Quite a look in my day..................

we never had a tent in the 70's
we started off with a Bedford CA dormobile camper
then in the late 70's we upgraded to a Commer caravanette
great days

Up until recently I had one of these...

It's a CombiCamp Sport. Took all of 30 seconds to setup! 15 minutes after pulling up I'd be sitting on the bed with a cuppa ;D
