Title: For Banjax, Optimist, Cem, etc.
Post by: Nickbat on 26 July 2010, 22:14:00
I just read a very interesting, and recent, article on environmentalism:

Read these quotes

"I also advance that there are strong societal, institutional, and psychological motivations for having constructed and for continuing to maintain the myth of a global warming dominant threat (global warming myth, for short)."

"...by far the most destructive force on the planet is power-driven financiers and profit-driven corporations and their cartels backed by military might; and that the global warming myth is a red herring that contributes to hiding this truth. In my opinion, activists who, using any justification, feed the global warming myth have effectively been co-opted, or at best neutralized.”

"Global warming is strictly an imaginary problem of the First World middleclass."

"Climategate only confirms what should be obvious to any practicing scientist:That science is a mafia when it’s not simply a sleeping pill."

Very interesting thoughts, indeed. :y

OK, perhaps I should mention that these quotes come not from a right-wing, Exxon-paid, "nut job", but from the left-wing physicist Dr. Denis Rancourt who is a former professor and environmental science researcher at the University of Ottawa.

http://activistteacher.blogspot.com/2010/06/some-big-lies-of-science.html

The point I'm making (and I make no apology for doing so, as this global warming malarkey is the elephant in the room of which we ALL need to be wary) is that there are thankfully some left-wingers out there who see the connection between the very biggest and most powerful on the one hand and the tree-hugging cannon fodder on the other. In other words, useful idiots who can be duped into making the former very rich indeed... :(

It should make you think. ;)

Thanks to the Times Higher Education supplement, I just read a very thoughtful article:

BP has a representative at the top of the Earth Institute. The European Commission funds offices for Friends of the Earth and the WWF. The UK government supports climate-change research. Have the poachers turned gamekeepers? Yes - although it might be more precise to say that the bootleggers have become Baptists. Everywhere, the bootleggers can be seen walking around in black, spouting biblical prophecies of doom - and growing ever richer in the process

Follow the money......  ::) ::) ::)

It's weather, Cem. Didn't Turkey have some remarkable cold spells in winter the last few years?
Still, better hot than cold. Chile is suffering economically because of excessive cold right now.  ;)
