Title: dated omega?....
Post by: cam2502 on 29 July 2010, 20:17:05
had a bit of a (heated) argument earlier with a guy  who reckons the omega is looking very dated.
i dont think my facelift looks dated at all >:(

obviously we are gonna be biased here..but i just wondered how many of you would agree me and how many with the guy?

Black door strips look dated

Car itself doesn't - actually what does date it is that it is not dumpy and ugly

Considering how long ago the Omega B first went into production, I think it's doing pretty well. It's got a sleek shape, and the back looks good, only thing that lets it down for me is the front on the Vauxhall ones - the Opel and Holden versions look better at the front for me  :y

Do you care what he thinks? Whether it is or not doesn't matter if you like it.  ;)

Maybe my preface lift is starting to, but I don't care.  ::)

i love mine, especially the colour. but the silver is starting to grow on me now.

And my director who owned an elite from new, said at the site meeting monday to me that he regrets getting rid of it in place of an x type jag. and hes giving me his roof bars when he comes down at the next site meeting on monday.  :y

I think the Omega looks better than all BMW's...old or new  ;)
I also have a 1996 Laguna Estate, top class nick and when I look at them both parked outside together, they both look as modern as any car  :y

My facelift estate looks fantastic. It looks slighty dated when viewed from the rear. From every other angle I personally feel it challenges modern design :y

My MOT is due in 6 weeks, if nothing untoward crops up, I fully intend to keep my Elite until it dies, I just love it 8-) 8-)

Must admit the pre face lift is looking dated but the interior is as good if not better than todays cars :):)

At the end of the day the omega is never going to have the looks of an aston but who cares when you are sitting in nice soft seat cruising on the motorway with no effort enjoying the ride. Can go any where and still feel refreshed and do its all with a bit of style for not alot of money at all and look at the knob next to you in his little euro box or bmw with sports supension that is only good for cracking nuts.

Dated isn't necessarily a bad thing especially coming from folk who only like what's new so have no real love of any car. The Omega shape is timeless from the first base spec GLS to the last facelift Elite & is one of the few cars ever made that can carry off an equally cool estate.
One day any remaining Migs will command the prices that old Crestas & Zodiacs do now on the classic car scene. 8-)

its a general acceptance that egg shaped cars design dont become dated .. look in new passats , beamers , opels all start to curve the corners and go for egg shape.. imo pre facelift look newish than the facelift ;D

(except mercedes and who cares ;D)

I think it's a great design but take the point that the black door strips look a bit pants now, I put facelift ones + rear bumper on mine and colour coded the front bumper.

Car design goes in circles, square vectra and focus to the softer ones we have now.

Omegas rule!!

Pre-facelift does look dated, yes, but the facelift still looks fresh if you ask me :)

I think that the Omega has stood the test of time very well some of the new cars rolling off the line now look more  dated body wise than the Omega. The drag co. eff. is still up there in the top ten. That is undoubtebly one of the reasons why "Rats" chose the Omega body shell for his 245mph+ "bullet" project  :o Not bad for a car that was designed over 17 years ago 8-) :) :y

i prefer the pre arse end to the new and the pre cockpit to the new but the front end on the facelift is as modern as todays cars

as i put in the dam dam dam thread by MDTM i dont think weve come forward with cars, something that was so basic and got you from A to B  was what some people now call dated cars and although the omega in my eyes can date back to the carlton and comes as far forward as (2003 was it or it could be 04 someone feel free to correct)it stands the test of both times but bring back the cortina/granada/rovers/escort/triumphs eh guy :y

I reckon in years to come the prefacelift will age better.

Never been in a facelift so dont know about the interior but the minifacelift is definatly much better than the pure crap that most modern interiors are  :y
