Title: Dear Moderators....
Post by: Brikhead on 31 July 2010, 21:56:08
Could you please let me know whats happened to my thread in the 'cars for sale' section of the Forum, has it been deleted? If so, could you not just have deleted the last few posts that were made on it, rather than the whole thing?

I deleted it.

You were still listed as viewing the thread before I did so and would have seen my reply.

In case you didn't, here it is...

Sorry Brickhead but you don't have enough Post Count to sell your parts.
You do have however too put your car up for sale.
 :y

Erm... I've edited the post that didn't comply with the guide lines....Any better?

No.  Strikethrough is simply a pee take, in my opinion.

Have been keeping an eye on this thread to see what direction it would go and it has went as anticipated.   :(   ::)

Will delete shortly but meantime, locking....

You listed a car for sale.

You sold the front suspension from the car and thereafter made a list of remaining parts and individual prices of each.  ** edit

When questioned by a Mod, you used strikethrough to edit your post and as such, the original pricing list was still visible.

That, as I said above, is taking the pee IMO.

I initially edited out the strikethrough on your post and started to post a reply.  On doing so, I had a rethink and deleted the thread as it was already borderline as regards forum guidelines anyway...

** edit **  .....in the cars for sale section, not car parts, as you have an insufficient postcount to post car parts.

No Mate, I didn't see the reply before the thread was deleted.

Admittedly the strike through thing was a bit cheeky, but then, as you say, the whole ad was a bit borderline. You had already decided to allow it to remain on the Forum for several weeks, so I think the decision to remove it was a little harsh.
I appreciate the need for rules to protect the users of the Forum from con-artists, but I think 2,500 posts (or how ever many it is) is a little bit excessive.

I only want to re-coup some of the £800 that I have spent on this car, if I can help fellow Vauxhall enthusiasts to keep there cars on the road in the process then how is that a bad thing?

By your own admission then you got away with it longer than you had expected.

it's 250 posts, so not really harsh by any standards, and in all fairness was impossed after quite a dabate and was majority decided by the users,   :y

it's 250 posts,

Not too bad then... It just seems a bit pointless writing repetitive single line posts in the 'newbie' area of the Forum.

It was something I didn't really want to do.

Also if you (the Forum) are going to go to all the bother of having rules then they should be strictly enforced at all times, not when you feel like it.

If I do get to 250 posts is there any chance the advert will suddenly re-appear!! :y

Admin all hold down full time jobs then come on here and moderate some of the problems that arrise.

Some of the rukes broken sometimes go unseen, amd some rules that are broken some times get ignored on a leanancy jesture.

Cars for sale and parts for sale involve trust and money and therefore are monitored differently.  you raised your point and the deletion was explained to you.

1 Mod advised, I Admin deleted and another admin confirmed.  At the end of the day matey they are the rules, you can either accept them or not, but I doubt it will change anything.

I would suggest reading the forum rules about doing this  ;)

Whenever I, & I would imagine most other members go to the Newbie section, it is to genuinely welcome new members, i've never thought of it as 'a bit pointless writing repetitive single line posts in the 'newbie' area of the Forum'. ;)

It was not cheeky, it was taking the piss....

As for being on there 'several weeks', you initially posted up a car for sale add on the 12th July.  Thats hardly several weeks....

In the meantime, you placed assorted posts throughout the boards offerring parts from the car and linking these back to your for sale add.

That is where you were given a very large slice of the benefit of the doubt although it was quite obvious to myself and the admin team what you were doing.

You turned it into a car being broken for bits add in the cars for sale section at 0148 on Saturday 31st, i.e. early hours yesterday morning by listing assorted parts of the car for sale at individual prices.

You were advised by LooKnee that you had overstepped the mark and then, rather than deleting the content, you simply used strikethrough?

When I saw what you had done I initially edited your post deleting the struckthrough content.  I was then placing my post explaining my actions when I had a rethink i.e. you had received enough slack and I deleted the post.

Now you claim foul?

Hardly......  >:(

And no, it will not be resurrected.  As others have said, join the community and partake willingly rather than umpteen hollow 'welcome to OOF' posts in Newbies.

We all have something to offer, in one way or another.

And as to this comment, if your links were deleted as they first appeared when you scattergunned help threads with parts for sale from your car then, without doubt, you would be bleating 'heavy handed'.

And they are guidelines, not rules for exactly the purpose as we now see.  To allow some variation so as not to appear all black and white and draconian.

Basically admin are spending more time than they use to modifiying/deleting posts which don't conform with the rules. Which is a good thing.
We used to see links to ebay listings last quite a few days before someone deleted it, not anymore.
I go on another car forum were it's free to use and participate, but if you want to sell it's £12 I think, per year. It stops the casual new member just joining to sell on a car they want rid of.
We don't want that here so that's why the rules and mods are set :y

Not getting at you BTW just explaining some of the reasoning in it all ;)

.... and your initial tale of woe when the car went bang was dated 28th June.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1277723776

The how and where of advertising your car was explained to you then, as was the placing of links to external and alternate sites.

Yup, you had some slack and it ended last night....  :-X

I'll bump it for the last time just to publicly apologize to the Admin/Moderation team for blatantly taking the 'P' and then moaning about it when pulled up on it...

Sorry.
