Bertie posted Lee's mobile number in the original post H21 :y
-
Called the number a wee while ago and got answerphone. Thought it was bertie, misread the post. Will see what unfolds.
-
I can help as I'm not a million miles away - less than 5 actually - which camp-site is he at -Balloch/Luss/Cashel - and what tools does he want?

Yes - didn't read all the initial post before I posted - rang him and he's got my number - so should be able to help him - not a good start to his hols.

Awesome. This is exactly what separates this site from many others. People going out of their way, gaining new friendships and respect purely because they own the same model of car.
Well done 'MF' :y and Goodluck Welung! :y
-
As said, good luck, WeLung. :y
Nice to see people rallying round to help other folk.
-
top stuff! :y

Hi folks, I'm on a borrowed dongle from a neighbouring tent so just thought I'd pop on.
Firstly a huge thanks to Bertie for putting my panic stricken, non-sensible drivvle into a coherant plea for help. Secondly many thanks to everyone for calling or texting with offers of help. I've got MF coming up at lunchtime today with a toolkit and his TC to see if we can't get me sorted out.
I am touched by all your messages of concern, support and offers of help. Maybe I will make it to a larger meet and buy a round in :y
Anyway, enough gushing from me, I'm off to clmb a real gusher (a local waterall that hasn't falen fowl to a hydro-elec. plant... yet!) :y
-
Me again! Many many thanks to MF for turning up with bags of tools! I've stripped the waterpump out now and the main bearing has failed big time, so trying to source a replacement now.
Just one question..... How the hell does the viscous block come off?
-
its either threaded on with LH thread or an 8 mm allen bolt through the centre, new pump should give the best clue :y
-
Left handed thread ;)
I put a screw driver through the bolt heads to hold it and a large adjustable on the fan nut.

There isn't an allen key in the centre so LH thread it is, thanks Henry and Pete :y
I'm going to the pub now ;D
[edit]Edit to add:- New waterpump coming parcel farce ND service from the motor factors SWMBO works for £17.49 + vat + postage ;)[/edit]

Glad you're getting sorted mate - nothing worse than breaking down in the wilds with no kit or spares - especially if you know how to fix the problem. Its good to see local help appearing ;)
Now about my problems . . . . . . . . :)
-
Great news Lee :y & a Big Well Done to MF! [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif] Hope the rest of your Hols go according to plan ;D :y

Just wondering Lee have you taken the fan off before pump removal or is the fan still on the knacked pump if you get my drift.
Hope you get going again I missed the post yesterday I might of been able to get new pump at dingbro in Glasgow

Brilliant to read, and well done to all who helped.
My daughter, having upgraded to an i-Phone4, has given me her 'old' i-Phone 3 ( Funny how now I'm a certain age my kids pass their old tecno stuff 'down' to me), and it is great for emergencies like this, although I haven't cause like Lee did to use it.
Sorry about the topic drift Mods. :y
-
Yep i spoke to lee earlier and he was a lot happier than he had been on monday...cant understand why though ::) ::) ::)..... But yeah a big thanx to all the OOF members who assisted and thanx to all the well wishers too....Best Car forum in the world i think folks..... :y :y

Echoed completely. An immense thanks to everyone including Jim and MF, Jim waited while I fitted the new pump (metal impeller, old one was plastic) and kindly took all of MF's tools back as they are practically neighbours.
The old pump... well, where do I start? Plastic impeller still fully intact apart from a few scuffs caused by the rear bearing colapsing causing the water to escape round the shaft (no rude comments you lot!).
So we're stopping here tonight and moving further north tomorrow. So anyone on the west shore of Loch Ness fancies a beer then give me shout (number on page 1 of this thread) ;) :y

To be honest I'm really PISSED OFF with LEE - why couldn't he just drop my tool's off when he got his car going- I only live half an hours drive away from the camp-site.
THOROUGHLY PISSED OFF WITH HIM
LAst Time EVER I lend my tools out - I now have to probably go over to barrhead (distance of another 20 miles) to get my tools back.

I thought I had just read that your tools had been returned MF? I need to double check now . Can understand your frustration if you haven't had them returned.

Just to let everyone know, I have the tools!!
And they will be delivered back to MF tomorrow morning.
After Lee had finished with them he asked if I could drop them of at MF's house as I live closer to him, as Lee was heading further North, I have sent MF a PM and told him I will be around tomorrow.
-
Good man Jim sure MF will appreciate that.
Sounds like you all pulled him out of trouble.
Well Done Everyone Involved :y

There is a nice walk just south of Fort Augustus that take you up for a better word a ravine, which has an old road on the right hand side of it (the old road not in use now), to access it's off the A82 before you come into Fort augustus, go west past the end of general Wades road, can't miss the ravine, you'll find plenty of fools gold up there ;D :y
