Nothing. But last year was 'interesting' >:(

really cant understand why you lot worry about the MOT test, surely we are all enthusiasts and try to keep the cars in top mechanical condition? personallyi like to know my car will take me anywhere i want to go without any issues :yI just go through the car the week before with my own Mot pretest do anything i think it may fail on and chuck it in!!!
havent had a failure since 1995 when the hanbrake cable snapped on the brake test, took car home got a cable replaced it and had the car retested the same afternoon and got me ticket,
so why the worry???
puzzled :y

All the best
-
Is it done yet?

If it's taking this long TB is either trying to distract him or giving him a kicking for failing it ::) ::) :D :D
-
Just got a text.....its failed!
-
And you would NOT beleave what the bunch of jobsworth tossers have failed it on!......
....its so funny.
-

Oh dear... On much?
-
Handbrake again?
You got a visitor tomorrow?
-
And you would NOT beleave what the bunch of jobsworth tossers have failed it on!......

do share
-
lol.....cant stop laughing.....its bloody funny and hes not happy!
-
Its failed on.....
-
.....this is a bloody classic one this.....
-
....the airfreshener that the Kosovan car cleaners hung in it...... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yes, they FAILED the MOT on it rather than just removing the bloody thing or having a quick word!
-
It's got to be the handbrake then ::) ::) ::)
-
Ohhhh thats gonna take some fixing.
I hope for his sake they do a free retest,
Can you imagine having to fork out again cos of that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
:D ;D ;D ;D and I bet they want to charge him for a retest! :o :o ;D
-
They have already done the re-test following 3 seconds with a pair of scissors (probably used to gouge out the eye balls of the MOT tester) but, it means a fail is now recorded on the vehicle record!
-
And you would NOT beleave what the bunch of jobsworth tossers have failed it on!......

MDTM - thats 16lb sledgehammer of yours, I need to borrow please >:(
-
mental note, be nice to Jaime today.....
-
At least the advisory list did not include the usual 'Plastic Sills' that they always put on.
-
I`m confused :-/ :-/......
-
MDTM - thats 16lb sledgehammer of yours, I need to borrow please >:(
The question we are all asking is....
is it for the car, the MOT station or the Cosovans!
-
What advisories did you get?
and what wheels were on it?
-
Actually, they have dropped a bollock here:
Under section 8.3 of the testers manual it states:
the vehicle presenter should be advised of and given the opportunity to remove any item likely to fail under Reason for Rejection 1 b or 1e before a VT30 is issued,
So, no VT30 should have been issued!
-
I`m confused :-/ :-/......
Glad it's not just me then ;D
-
Is this the parrot sketch from monty python????? ::)
-
An MOT can refused if the drivers vision is impaired by an item which is not part of the original vehicle fit.
I.e. an air freshener dangling from the rear view mirror!
-
MDTM - thats 16lb sledgehammer of yours, I need to borrow please >:(
The question we are all asking is....
is it for the car check, the MOT station check or the Cosovans check!
Marks DTM Calib for taking the piss check
-
It failed on a AIR FRESHNER???? Who did the MOT??? How bloody petty is that....He wants reporting thats pathetic..... >:(
-
You know why....... its Friday the 13th!!!!!!!
-
Jamie, I think you need to find yourself another, less petty, MOT station.
-
Hmmmm, seems I'm not alone in falling foul of this....

No.. Take it there next year, after a brussels sprout vindaloo the night before, "drop your handbag" as you get out of the car and see if they complain about the smell. ;D

Get Jimbob to take it then
It might fail on emissions then though (although not from the tail pipe!)

I reckon they have had complaints so are failing like this to divert them

I doubt it. They'd have to get the bloke out to change the clogged filters on their sniffer before even testing it. ::)

This has carried me through a really crap day at work... Every time I started feeling cheesed off I just thought of the scene when TB was told the MV6 had failed... And why :D :D :D :D :D

Just channel flicking, and there's one of those chavvy police/camera/action programmes on channel 5. The police driving a high performance car at high speed with a rather great big tomtom type unit stuck to the windscreen.
Yet I fail on a rather poxy rather dingly dangly air freshner >:(

Is this a joke? I can't believe a car would fail because of that... :-?
-
I have just read the latter part of this thread with disbelief, :o :o my local garage would just have took it down, they will even do little running repairs, if they can while doing the test. :y
Retests are free, I think, but does the work not have to be done at the garage for this :-/
-
When I was testing I always used to remove them on the way into the test bay... They've been incredibly petty and stupid and if it were me I'd be contacting VOSA and the local press as they have actually issued a VT30 without cause (as the manual states you should have been given the opportunity to remove it) ::) ::) Obviously if it had failed on something else then that would be different :y :y
But it has given us all a really good laugh today ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y

You most certainly need another test stn if this is true. I've used the same one for years now. If it's dangerous it'll fail but he's understanding & lenient. If for example the car's well maintained but needs a wiper blade, he'll tell you to get one pronto, or he'll re align a headlight, replace a bulb etc. Once on a Mondeo (sorry) it passed but i'd overlooked an iffy front tyre. He held the new certificate & the keys up & told me i could have them when i fitted the legal spare, cup of tea thrown in.
Can't moan at that. 8-)

Did they actually charge you for the retest?
-
My GLS was 100% ok before its test as I had been out in it the night before, went for the MOT in September and the N/S dip beam filament had gone (So was a fail). The tester put me a brand new bulb in, and carried on doing the test.
When complete, went to pay, only got chaged for the MOT, asked how much for the bulb and fitting, they responded No Charge. Pays to stick with the same testers (Sometimes)
-
Somehow I can't see our grumpy guy doing that lol. Think we'll have to change MOT testing garage!
-
My old station was pretty good (and they did repairs) - once was told that if I could get the fog light bulb fixed before he'd finished taking down the VIN number, i'd be fine - and the next time he gave me 20 minutes and loaned me a jack to change the tyre for the spare..since been taken over by others and don't use it any more..
Not had a silly failure like that for a good while though - silly causes, though. Wife's Mini failed on a driveshaft boot leaking (said split) - was actually grease dripped down from the top balljoints...
-
my mot station is great
my dad grew up with the bloke that runs it and i did my work experience at school there and worked for him for a year
i take my cars to him he will ask if ive done any work and have a quick look round and put the kettle on then print the pass off the computer :y
-
Apart for he always puts advisories for plastic sills and worn pads, I've never really had an issue with this place.
I've actually checked the test manual, and what he's failed it on, and there is no way it could have failed on that (dingly dangly from mirror affecting Zone A).
But fact remains I have a pass on it, so nothing gained from paying for a dispute, and I want to continue using this station, believe it or not.
-
thanks for the giggle, i have just pissed myself laughing for the last 20 minutes.....something does small fishy here though ;D ;D
So will we be seeing an advert for a part work air-freshner in the items for sale....
What flavour was it?

I've just returned from the MOT station with a PASS for the diseasal Astra and asked about the air freshener. YIPEE!
'My' tester said he'd been pulled up by VOSA (over the phone) to ask why his fail rate was only around 20/25% and the average is more like 35%. His explanation was that they get alot of trade vehicles that have are presented by garages who've pre-checked them and ambulances that are only a year old. Explanation was good enough but VOSA still said that he wasn't failing people on beam alignment .... why? He said he adjusted as he went along, saved time & effort all round. VOSA said he should be failing them first, adjusting it and then logging it as a 'PRS' Pass Repaired in Station. It's all about statistics!
So ... The Boy's MOT tester was just going by the book to keep VOSA's statistics happy!

Yup some clueless clown will have set a "target" so other clueless clowns can "monitor" the poor bloke who actually knows how to do the job. >:(
Quite likely.
Lies, damned lies & statistics!

Statistics, performance indicators, targets, or whatever you want to call them, seem to control everything in our lives these days, and create a mass of unecessary paperwork, what happened to common sence and flexibiity. >:( :-X Sorry, pet hate. ::)
