This bit REALLY winds me up:

A council spokeswoman said: “All Harrow’s high schools are to serve halal meat from September.” She said halal meat was clearly marked adding: “There are always alternative fish and vegetarian choices.”

No kid of mine would be forced to eat Halal meat. Fair enough, if there's the demand then give people the option, but there must be at least as many opposed to it as would welcome it. :(

If this soft lot & all the other daft 'minority aware' buggers are left unchecked we will wake up one morning in the not too distant future & find Shariah Law rules ALL of us! When are we going to wake up in this benighted island & tell them enough is enough?  >:(

As said, I have no issues with it being an option but totally Halal? What is this country coming to? You couldn't get the choice in other countries >:( >:(

I notice the line "Have Your Say is unavailable for this story".

I wonder why?

true terbert, at work my philosophy is "dont just bitch about it-do something about it!" and dont be afraid to "challenge upwards". The sad truth however is that there are so many incidents you hear/see/read about like this that you simply wouldnt have the time/energy to appeal against, leastways, not in a way that might have any effect. Having said that, if you really feel strongly about stuff, then you should voice your opinion to those concerned. Guess the very fact such stories are reported (IF the full and true facts are reported) is an indication of how such decisions are percieved by your "silent majority"

Umm......

I thought the meat is the same, just how it is killed and butchered is different???

Somebody enlighten me.

I believe the important bit is how the animal is killed. It is nice to see Harrow council agreeing with animal suffering.

The animal has it throat slit and its blood drained.

I am a meat eater but would like to think my 'meat' did not have to suffer in that way.

TBH I don't think the meat is the 'real' issue here, highly contentious though it is?
If Local Authorities are allowed to get away with issues like this unchecked, how long will it be before our kids are being taught the Koran in school, wearing headscarfs, etc. etc. all in the name of 'integration'? Note that it is ourchildren that are having to change their norm to suit the minority & not the other way round? This sort of thing has escalated from the odd report tucked away in the middle of National newsrags to stories from all parts of the Country, with regular & mind boggling reports of Local Councils arbitrarily imposing 'Cultural Awareness' on their Electorate. I may be overreacting, but even allowing for Press Sensationalism my gut feelings on this are clear; we as a Christian Nation, & by and large, Tolerant Society, are being led at both Local and National level by Liberal minded Apologists with their own agenda, who wish to rewrite History & Britains part in it and seem hell bent on destroying it from within! >:( >:(

I looked into the issue of Halal meat when someone locally went ballistic about eating food sacrificed to idols (that might not mean a lot to some of you but has Christian connotations).

It looked at the time as if most of the meat sold in supermarkets etc. was actually Halal already - it just wasn't labelled as such.  I also found out that large numbers of slaughter-houses in NZ were being built facing in a certain direction to accommodate the requirements.

I should have written it up at the time - never thought it would come up again! ;D

BTW in Oz, they stun the animals before slaughter and it fits with the Halal spec. as long as stunning doesn't kill them.

i want to be sure a large bolt to the brain killed my beef - not a quick slit to the throat with a sharp knife....................what the hell's that about? barbarians  :y

one day we'll look back and laugh at all religion - what was the deal with the food you could and couldn't eat? whats with the hats? remember all that pish?...........we'll be like the Romans worshipping Jupiter to the future historians.....and arguing about who's rules are right...........just makes it even funnier  :y :y :y

so....what's everyone doing for lent? giving up smoking the crack as usual?  ;)
