used to like playing that. Only ever played it on the PC ,but wouldnt mind a "real" set. Having said that I used to like playing chess and I never get time for that now so would probably be a waste of money :-/

Interested in how you managed to stumble upon that though Guy?

At 5 or 6 years old i was tried on chess. It was too deep then & would be (for me) now as with cricket, Genesis, being married....terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired, i'm shallow, can't even sit through a movie but for some reason at the same age i took to Mah Jong like a duck to the proverbial. Hav'nt played since i was 9 or 10 so nearly 40yrs. I remember the playing field being set up in a square & some of the symbols but not much else although i noticed some of the sets on ebay did'nt include counting sticks for scoring?
Any advice would be appreciated. Guy.

Get back into it.  Great game - but just play with one set of rules and leave them out at hand.

That "vintage" set (is it really?) is too steep for me.
We seem to have mis-placed the 'family' set along the way, like no one in the family can find it!  IIRC that may have been Jap rules anyway.

theres a stall in covent garden market that sells all that sort of stuff, all hand made boxes, i bought "shut the box" a couple of years ago, well worth a visit.

Used to play regularly about 25 years ago or more, but then the other players emigrated, and it's not much of a game without 4 people playing.

I'm not sure we ever knew all the rules, and our "games" would last for hours.  Real players finish in minutes.

The computer game has nothing to do with the real Mah Jong game - it just uses the same tiles.

That was quite a nice set for sale.  We bought a modern one in Singapore - used up most of our baggage allowance coming home.  It must be around somewhere - probably in the loft.  I think we've got another set as well - car boot sale probably.  But we don't know anyone who plays or wants to, so we can't play any more. :( :( :(
