I went over the Cat & Fiddle today in the car whilst on my travels and could not believe the amount of cameras there is up there :( 50mph speed limit all over it...
For anyone not knowing the Cat & Fiddle.... it is actually a pub on the A537 which people travel from miles around to ride the road.....MCN (Motorcycle News) etc started to test out new bikes up "The Cat" but with this Fame came Mr Plod outriding scratchers with their BMW's :o and Bears in the Air ::)
A couple of years ago I rode it with a few mates I went around a 60-70 bend to find sand and gravel all over the road where Mr Farmer had been fitting a new gate :-? sheep are just grazing at the side off the road plus you are going over the Moors.... nice rideout but not for the Kenny Roberts wanna be's anymore :(

...that's been the message for some time, regardless of the road, build more tracks and subsidise track days IMO.
It's funny, some guys won't do a track day for fear of binning the bike, but quite happy to go 10 tenths on the road.....although 50 for a bike is like 10mph in a car, what? 2 seconds? 3 at the most?

The bends are great but the road surface is terrible never really seen the fasination myself...
Now the ride to Matlock is nice but died the same death :(

Think Tunnie has the right idea with the roads the way they are at the moment.

I am gonna sound really old here, but, there is a hell of a lot more traffic on the roads too compared to 20 years ago..... :o

just look around an average housing estate over a week-end. You'll find 2, 3 or 4 cars on a house's drive instead of just one or maybe two 20 years ago ;)

Not that much fun to be had riding on the roads these days,or maybe Im just getting old(er). Hard to find a clear stretch of road anywhere these days, and if you did plod are getting ever more devious with their detection methods. I am for the first time entertaining thoughts of hanging up my helmet. :( :'(
Then again I would like to have a 916 and an R1 before I do. ::) :D

Usually park at the Cat & Fiddle and go for a walk Daz.
Yes they have cameras out on the A6 at the weekend. Matlock Bath is the fav place to gather for the leather clad brigade :y

Ah, the days when I loved the boys on their Lambretta's (never a fan of the Vespa), with Parka's, tiger tails and multiple mirrors :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* I seem to remember I admired those on the 200 GT's (were there such a thing? - my memory is unsure!!) rather than the 'lesser' models!!
Fantastic memories of real pop music, 1968 style, and care free days of watching those boys!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* 8-) 8-)

I had the common 150 Li, think it was GP or GT (can't remember) was the one's to aim for. I couldn't afford one at the time, probably can't now, be a rare one that. :y

Me and my bro go up there cycling whenever I am up for an interesting training session :-X
-
We were there today. Stupidly low 50mph speed limit. Those who were likely to exceed - by a lot - the 60/NSL would exceed a 50mph until you have average speed cameras to contend with. We passed a biker who'd been pulled by a plain black Mondeo with blue flashing lights in the grille ..... stupid place to stop him on a bend, but hey ho! :-? Another camera-in-a-van towards the Manchester end with a car further up pulling in vehicles.
I wonder if the marked cop 5 series was on a duty call as he blasted passed the opposite way (not the Cat 'n Fiddle but near by), no lights or sirens though :-X
I wonder how far they can lower the speed limit .... we'll have a man in front waving a red flag again soon. >:(

That's probably the lentil munchers plan.

We saw a bloke sat at the side of the road that had come off his (pedal) bike, from the quick glimpse we got he looked pretty shook up, badly grazed knees & hands. Others had stopped & we saw the ambulance a few minutes later. Don't know if he was knocked off or just fell off. :-/
As one bloke at work said, when he rides his motor bike he wears thick gloves, leathers, full face crash helmet, however when out cycling - he does loads - all he wears for protection from falling off is a cycling helmet.

that sort of thing's a major factor behind my moving to the other end of the country

I used to volunteer for a triathlon event company and one of the races was the Buxton Beast Duathlon. Most competitors had hydraulic brakes (this was 12 years ago) on their racing bikes. Several people came off their bikes on the 40mph+ descents....ouch!
