For those interested in history, here are some incredible colour photographs of Russia from the days of Tsar Nicholas II. Astounding that such quality was possible 100 years ago. :o

Very impressive indeed 8-) :y

They are brilliant, great find. There was a great program on this week about the assasination of the Romanovs, with loads of film from the time (but not in colour).
have you seen these, leningrad Seige photos , 'then' overlayed on 'now'. A very novel approach, (and a bit spooky). http://englishrussia.com/index.php/2009/01/26/2235/

Incredible pictures. :y
As you say, quite spooky, especially the photo with the overlay of the dead bodies on the pavement. :o

They really are stunning for their time. I wonder how much modern tweaking has been done to get them looking like that?

excellent find nickbat!Very impressive-so much so that part of me still thinks theyre a hoax (had me looking for evidence of anything modern in them a la aircraft in that raquel welch movie "a million years BC" ;D) or else theyd been subject to some modern photographic tampering!Very good and very interesting :y

ive seen actual prints from the russian tzar and all the family and lots of other stuff relating to the family that ruled russia. my x wifes great nan was there nanny during there reign and fled to africa when the tzar was killed. she then went to work for the then abdicated king of england, edward and mrs simpson till there deaths then came back here to live in harlesden in north london where she lived up until about 15 years ago when she died at the age of 109. if a historian got there hands on some of the stuff my x wifes mum has would be big money for him. she also had tv companies wanting to do her life story years ago but she refused, said it was very private and not for sale.
her name was elizabeth willington, this woman survived all the great wars of the 20th century in probably one of the worse places on earth to be during the time. :y

I would think they are genuine.
There is evidence in some of the pictures where full overlay registration has not been possible. In picture 27, to the left, there is a child who has obviously moved between 2 of the shots, and another child has moved or turned their head. Also any picture with flowing water, the water looks patchy, areas of more red, blue or green.
I would think that, if there was any tampering going on, they would have cleaned these things up at the same time. :y

Brilliant spot Nick!! :y :y :y :y :y
A wonderful view of a period in Russian history before the big change in 1917. Those photographs are quite amazing and do appear as though taken only yesterday, which just proves how not everything of one hundred years ago is 'backward'. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)

I imagine that an image negative of the size produced by a typical plate camera of the era would have given impressive results. :y
There was some quite sophisticated kit being used at the time 8-)

Great photos, thanks for sharing them. I went to Russia a few years ago and it was like a timewarp. It was just like being in an 80s film! The woman are absolutely stunning aswell, and the beer was cheap, and the vodka!
