Title: Back from a week in Keswick / Jimbob's cyst thread
Post by: Jimbob on 12 June 2010, 18:47:10
Just back from a nice week up in Keswick, not the best break weve ever had, but nice to escape anyway....apart from...

Acyst in my chest decided to become infected and grow, and then burst....some what spoilt the holiday being under doctor / hospital.

I currently have a hole, about an inch diameter in my chest, weeping rather nasty gunk, and im on horse strength antibiotics.

Thats the most impressive zit Ive ever seen :o :o
The redness around it would suggest a nasty painful infection. Presumably you are taking some serious antibiotics?

That is the dose I had, when I had blood poisoning.

In addition, I was taking metronidazole with it.

I was not a well bunny.

Well still being dressed at the doctors every few days.

Trouble is, I now have a superfluous thrid nipple  :-[

It is over granulating, which means it has produced more cells than it needs, and is protruding now rather than being a hole..

They have painted it with some nitrogen stuff, which burns like hell.

Im in a lot of pain with it today  :'( :'( :'(

Looks just like some of the bullet wounds I saw years ago..............after the slug was removed, it looked like that after the dressing was removed to let air in the wound to aid healing.......

You sure you haven't p*ssed somebody off?    LOL!

Had it dressed with some different stuff today, which doesnt hurt.

Back again tomorrow to see how its doing.

still weeping a lot of gunk, so we are not winning.

Looks like its going to be surgery to cut the bugger out.  :'(

I am well and truely fed up.  Ive a car I want to work on, but cannot, everything is a chore, cant even have a decent shower cos of my dressings...fed up to the back teeth.

;) Supportive cyber-hugs beings sent over the hill to you, James. :y

Sometimes the healing is delayed and takes that (worryingly) bit longer to kick-in....here`s hoping you will soon be back on top-form without the need for surgery. :y

Thanks Debs, think its gone / going too long for that now.

Still weeping cyst gunk, have a 3rd nipple etc

even if it does heal, it could flare up again in the future

After surgically removing that risk is removed, so for the best.

Its basically local anaesthetic, small op to remove, sew me back up, then heal a normal wound.
Im not very good with medical stuff though...1st time I gave blood they thought the blood pressure machine was broken it read so high  :'(

Sad news Jb but sometimes surgery (and I'm certainly not a fan) is the only realistic solution.

If that's the route chosen, I hope it goes well. :y :y

Aye Cheers, taken some coming too, but I think it needs to go.

The reality is they could have probably removed the cyst with just a pair of tweezers a few weeks ago  ;D

It has really knocked the stuffing out of me, any strenuous activity puts pressure through it, hampered me a lot.

redressed today....

the 3rd nipple has gone!  the mental nitrate stuff, and then the cream have done the job.

It looks like the weeping may have stopped,

Still a tiny hole there

Dressed with silver dressing now.

Got to make an appointment with the Doc now to discuss surgery.

I've had 3 of those over the years.  All on my back, so I haven't seen them, so I can't say if they were as bad as yours.  Anyway, I haven't looked at your pictures - I'm far too sensitive to appreciate blood and gore.  :)

The good news is that the surgery is trivial - I've had two of them removed, both by local GPs.  Takes five minutes, doesn't hurt, heals quite quickly.

My GP put me on the minor surgery waiting list for the last one, but that was well over a year ago, so he must have forgotten.  I had, until I just looked at this thread.  But it seems to have got better all on its own, so perhaps I won't bother. :) :) :)

All done, took about 1/2 an hour.

Feeling a bit out of it now, and sore now the anestehic has worn off.
got a fair few stiches, cyst was quite big.
gotta take it very easy for a week to 10 days, then be careful for a month after the stiches come out.

Least it should be over now.

Off for a lie down.

Well, took about 1/2 an hour to sort...

Injected 5 times with anaesthic
checked it was working "can you feel that", "just", "good, you would be on the ceiling otherwise"
sliced, removed and put in a jar, large manky lump.
stitched up and sent home.

Hurt at the time, wasnt too bad yesterday, quite sore again today as the brusing is developing.

Heres hoping thats about the end of it.
Need to take it very easy for a week till the stitches come out, then just take it easy for a month.

Ohhh. And who has been playing with my profile ;)

Just a few observations Jimbob  ::)

1. I prefered it how it was, much more colourful & 'fluid' lol. ;D
2. It now looks like a piece of Brisket! :o
3. Nice colour thread, blue is my fave colour  :y

Get well soon mate  :y ;)

Back at the docs yesterday

Had my stitches out, not the most pleasant experience.
Back to very careful again, nice to not have the stitches pulling and itching any more though.

Gotta keep a careful eye out for infection for the next few days and get anti-bi's if neccessary.

But the good news was the biospy results were back, and it was nothing more serious than an infected abcess.

Currently dressed with iodine dressings, and back on Tuesday for another prod.

If you can get your hands on some pure iodine add a few drops to your shower gel for an excellent cleaning and debraiding soap :y

handy tip,

this is iodine impregnated sheets you cut to size and place over the wound.  so not bottles of the stuff

No, you soak the iodine into a Scotch pad, and give it a good rub :D

Now just over a week since the stitches came out :

http://images.omegaowners.com/images/Jimbob/IMG_1144_resize.JPG

and  now

http://images.omegaowners.com/images/Jimbob/IMG_1156_resize.JPG

Healing nicely now, and enjoying having no dressing on it for the 1st time in 3 months!

Had the pathologist report, and apparently it was a sinus track, with granuloma.

Starting on some light stuff again - washed my new car for the 1st time last night  :D
Gonna take some time till its healed enough for anything much, but nice to make a start at last  :D :D :D

Yep. :y  Was the second part of the op I was waiting on.  Will take a month or two before I'm back to full fitness but I can manage that now that I'm drug, tube and daily dressing free :y :y

:P In view of the thorough and ongoing pictorial documentation of your affliction; all I can say, is that it`s clearly for the best that it wasn`t Haemorrhoids you were suffering from! ;D

;) Only kidding!......I`m very glad you`re on the mend James; it must be all that "kissing it better" by Ljay. :y
