My television seems to be well and truly donald ducked.......We have had it since 2002.....so I suppose it is only to be expected. :-/ :-/ :-/
When I switch it on........an orange/yellow mist slowly moves in from the right of the screen before covering it completely.... :'( :'( :'(
Does anyone know of any good offers available at the moment? .....£500 is my limit.... :y

You may be better having a surf Opti, most sites include user reviews these days and to be honest, unless you are a perfectionist, there isn't that much difference. (Unless, of course, you are interested in this new-fangled HD stuff)
-
Forgot to mention, John Lewis will give you a five year guarantee with your new telly. :y

Have you had a speaker stood near the Tv, seems odd that a Tb has only managed 8 years service. unluss it was just a cheapie in the 1st place (no disrepect meant by that comment)

I've had it then. My telly has a speaker either side of the screen, but I cant remove them as they are inside the cabinet. Must be a design fault. :(

Thanks Mr Steve........I understand that the valves warm up much more quickly on a new HD T.V... :)

here's the fella Opti, HD Ready as opposed to full HD, but you're not going to notice, Panasonic Viera - very good TV's - 50" of plasma loveliness for £500 that's £10 per inch :y

That's correct. And all the heat comes out of the front, instead of the back. ;D

And with a 50" plasma, you'll save on the heating bills. :y ;D

got a nice Sony 32" crt for nowt off the local freegle / freecycle group.
just 5 miles down the road to collect :D
depending what you want, maybe worth a look :y
ours has a fair few tellys go through as people 'upgrade' to massive flat panels

given the way the tv market is evolving so fast with plasma / lcd / led....
sizes and technology improving, along with freeview / sat and HD, we were more than happy to take a back seat approach while things evolve, in the hope that when we do have to buy a new telly, our £ will go much further and we will be happier with what we end up with.

Also at John Lewis. Extra £99, but that five year guarantee is worth the peace of mind

I like these nearly frameless models.

I bought a Toshiba 32" HD Regza 1080p (which I am told is what you need for proper HD) I'm no techy on this.
Cost £419 from Sainsburys on a special offer last year. There loads of TV's out there for much less than this @ 32"
So you should be able to pick one up for under £500 surely.

37 to 40 inch seems to be the average size of choice now. I would tend to stick with known brands rather than 'supermarket specials'.
Rather than have a plasma screen that uses more energy to run I chose an LCD type.
There would be little difficulty in finding a 1080P LCD set of those sizes that would fit into your budget.

Depends on what size room you intend putting it in.
Biggest is not always best, or infact needed.
Same model sold in Currys, Comet, but cheaper at the time.

I suppose so Mick as I'm sitting 2 metres away from a 40" Sony I feel that I could go to a 50" without it becoming too big for comfort.
With high def. sets (of good quality) I think it's more than possible to push the boat beyond the 32" size. :y
As a matter of fact I also have a 32" Tosh in bigger room than the one I'm in at the moment (with the Sony) The Tosh is just as good. :y :y

Distance, cant allways agree with that. I have a 46" Vierra at the bottom of my bed, sadly mainly used as my PC monitor and flicked over to watch TV , I was going to get a 42" LCD for the living room byt think adter using this for the PC I might go 50" or even 60" LCD for the bed room instead, and put the Vierra in the room.
