Glad to hear that uncle Z. He is one of my favourite artists, writes some thought provoking lyrics. Heres a couple more tasters for you.

A bit of a Gershwin flavour ?

I listened to and enjoyed all of them son and was taken back to the early 90's during late summer nights in the London flat of a colleague.
She loved music like this and we often sat with a few drinks in the late evening, windows open against the remaining heat of the day discussing the shit we had to deal with on behalf of the Great British public.
How I arrived at this point after listening to these three pieces I don't know - shows you the power of music I suppose.

I find many of his songs have that sort of effect Z - evocative for some reason, stuff that could only have been written by someone who has lived a life, and experienced the full range of emotions available. I could recommend many more of his tunes, and would recommend purchase or download of some of his albums. Rarely a duff track on them imo.
Hope I wasnt the cause of stirring memories you would rather have left asleep, but glad you connected with the music. :y
A couple more for you to be going on with. ;)

Tonight's contribution from me:

Why does music excavate our memory banks so? :-?
-
Dont know the answer to that question Nick. I think its probably better not to analyze it too much. Simply enjoy what it does. :y

Wise words, Albs. :y

Got a bit self-indulgent there for a while - not because of the music A, I get like this every now and again.
Not particurlarly a healthy state to be in but its best purged as soon as possible. I went off there for a good old eff and blind and am feeling much better now. :y
You're right of course, music is for listening to and is entirely unsuitable to be used as a tool for self analysis.

That's a great track Nick 8-)
With regard to the memory banks, music seems to effect the subconscious - perhaps even the limbic system.

We all do, Zulu. :y
You watch a film, and you ponder the most memorable parts. You watch a cricket match and you ponder the best dismissals and best strikes. You live life and you ponder the bits that mean something. It's not self-indulgent at all.
I can empathise with those times you recalled. I experienced similar situations. I enjoyed your literary style. For a moment, with your reflections of the windows open against the late-summer heat, I recalled the opening paragraphs of Ian Fleming's original "Casino Royale".
Had you written that the songs recalled a time when you had filled up with 4-star at the Esso Garage on the Finchley Road...then, I would have worried about you!! ;) ;D ;D

I was a bit carried away there (since edited now that sense has returned) ;D ;D
In the moment I'd forgotten the basic rule;
Never complain - Never explain.
Ho-hum. :-X :-X
