only funning, mate. Don't think Lizzie and Debs will appreciate being told that though...........hahahahahaha!
Would really like to meet either of them one day, they really sound fun and are soooo tolerant of us poor men here.
Right, Mistress Lizzie??

Yes indeed SS!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I make my comments and observations at times on some of the very narrow 'male orientated' threads, but really I understand that men must have their fun and it would be a boring world without that humour, especially for us women! :D :D :D :D :-* :-* ;)

Pity you don't manage to make meets, Lizzie, first drink definately on me!! :-*

Pity you don't manage to make meets, Lizzie, first drink definately on me!! :-*
I know SS, and I would love that drink! However they are some way from me, and I am rather afraid of attending one as judging by the pictures it is always a very macho affair where I don't think I would be welcome. I have upset too many with my straightforward talk, that comes with a very strong stubborn streak!! ::) ::) ::)
One day I, perhaps, will brave a Lakes meet as I love that area! 8-) 8-) 8-)
;) ;)

I seem to recall that there were many more ladies present than previous meets. OK .. not at the "spannering" stages .. but certainly at the "social" stages .. :y :y :y :y

Amazingly, the altimeter is reading 3120' at impact. Methinks it should have been calibrated correctly as there's no way the pilot was that high. :o
-
Believe me, Lizzie..........nothing macho at Newent (I was there) lots of SWMBO's there too, and mine......all made welcome, families/kids too. All good fun, yes, working on cars done, but I'm sure you would be welcome there too, I know I would have made you involved in fixing mine!!
See you next time?
Mike

Depends on the setting .. QNH setting gives height above sea level, so if the ground is 3120 above sea level it will read 3120 at impact.
QFE gives height above airfield touchdown, so that altimeter reads 0 at touchdown ON THE RUNWAY .. anywhere else it is inaccurate.
Most altimeters are set to QNH as heights on maps are abiove sea level .. it is therefore easy to correlate them..... or should be.
There are other settings as well .. QNE (standard 1013.25 mb); QFF (Calculated QFH when no measuring facility available)
The regional controller or Standard Procedures in the absence of ATC will tell a pilot which setting to use.

That's right, I imagine it was set at QNH on the approach to the "target area", but surely it would be better to switch to QFE if you're thinking of doing a low level run at a few hundred feet altitude. :-/
-
Very, very, few military forces use QFE, UK being the main one - USAF never do - and even fewer civilians.
For a low level run on a target a radar/radio altimeter giving an accurate height above anything solid coupled with visual procedures is almost always used. A pressure altimeter/met guess report on atmospheric presure is simply not accurate enough. Even GPS height is not accurate enough.

Duly educated! Thanks Entwood. :y :y
