Title: Budget motoring.
Post by: Amigo on 08 September 2010, 22:02:12
I've been skint, (single Dad, £60 a week) & somehow you'd saved up £2/300 for a car would you plum for some rusty round the clock hatchback barely holding itself together or this little gem:-

I love Shovitts, cracking little motors, nippy, reliable & unlike Vivas they're great fun to throw about plus you can adjust the tappets with the engine running. Hatchbacks look better but otherwise you can't go wrong. Good honest little motors. :y 8-)

Now the Chevettes were being snapped up as you could drop an engine straight in. If memory serves it was the 2.0 Cavalier engine making it downright lethal.  :y

You could drop all sorts in them if you had the money. This was meant to be a budget car thread? ::)

Nah, it was the slant 4 engines which slotted in very easily and gave a lot more grunt than the asthmatic 1256 viva unit. :y
In fact it was reasonably easy to drop in a 2300 magnum engine with a bit of tuning work done which would be just as quick as a standard twin cam HS. ;)

Evening Nick. It's good to hear a like mind. Every classic car i have folk give me the benefit of thier infinate wisdom as to what to drop in to make it faster. I've got the Beastie to go fast in. I like my classics as they were intended, that is the whole point, they have a certain charm.
I know the comments are well meant but i gues i'm just an old nostalgic!!!! 8-)

Not in the UK , yet, but just look at the prices the equivalent Kadet is soaring to over here .....

Buy any small to medium 30 year + Opel in UK and double / treble your money over here.
I know of a chap who paid paid €480 + shipping from Germany for a door for one of these and offered the same money for the other side ..........
Another paid £1500 for a very clean low miles Manta and then drove it home from Billing and then posted it for sale at £5850 ( € 6500 )
The worlds gone 'kin mad....... ::)
