You do make a valid point. One of the things I genuinely miss is catching up with mates down the local. They now share everything via the internet and then when you do see them, you already know everything that has gone on.
At work I am a recognised "communicator", which in my book means I chat to anyone. This is now regarded as a "skill", personally I just think it's just talking to people while maintaining a degree of respect.

I understand entirely, but leave the membership open!
If you're anything like me, you have OOF as a "favourite" and it's one-button access. Trying logging out and removing it from the favourite list. That way, you'll need to type out the whole address and login if you want to visit. If I had to do that, I wouldn't be on here half as much. While I only need to click to have a peep at what's going, I invariably do when I go online and the next minute I'm reading all the posts and posting myself. So stay a member, but make it harder and less tempting to pop in so regularly.
Good luck with the relationship, H! :y

Take a break H and get reacquainted with the more important things in life.
Leave your membership active all the same and let us know how you’re getting on - most things in life are about balance and if you get that balance more or less right you can devote time to the activities that interest you while keeping things well ordered at home.

Well done for recognising it.
Having seen a little kid on tv last night rack up a £400 bill on his dad's credit card for iPhone Apps, I am convinced that the down side of new technology is being ignored to the enormous detriment of individuals and society as a whole.
Do some face-to-face talking and even spend some time not 'doing' anything. It's precious.
Take care. :y

A very important point Chris about an unwelcome situation that may become obvious sooner, rather than later. :( :y

Best of luck, if you have something precious, hold onto it.

i must say, i do so agree with all your comments. Technology has definitely had an adverse effect on the social and personal structure of communication; and its sad :'(- what happened to the good 'ol letter writing and conversation?? Dont get me wrong, i'm not an old fuddy duddy, i do use my pc but mainly for business and work, and of course it is good for information etc etc....and there are good things like OOF where you can meet like minded folk, the meets for socialising, but i think you have to limit yourself to time spent on it.
but stay with us Daz yea? :y :y :y
now...... where did i put that sliderule?' ;D

If you decide to go chap, then good luck and take care. I have often thought I spend too much time on the forum so I make an effort to leave it for a day or two but its always nice to know that the friends i've made are still here should I need them ;)

Nail on the head Pete... I tend to go in fits and starts on here now (although you wouldn't believe it ::)) and tend to make the decision to "put it down" of an evening and watch some telly/chat with the missus :y :y
Don't delete your membership, just curb your visits :y :y
Right... I must go and get on with things ::) ::)

As others have said, leave your membership open but concentrate on whats important-your family. Most of us have been there mate. Because of finances and work committments me and the better half hardly see each other as we have different days off and even different holidays because of childcare issues so for once we recently booked a cheap short break in a caravan. Took a bit of time but we had a good relaxing few days and we promised ourselves to really work hard at trying to do so more often. Too easy to take each other forgranted sometimes and you grow apart wiithout realizing it. Best wishes and good luck :y
-
Best of luck Herc, as the others say, you don't have to leave the forum altogether, you just need to know where your priorities lie. I could spend a lot more time on here than I actually do, but purposely log off so that I'm not distracted from my wife and kids.
No harm in having a look every now and then when it's quiet though ;)
It'd be sad to lose you altogether, you're definitely one of the characters on here :y

Thought you'd never leave. Bye. ;D
