Unfortunately can't read what is on the side, but it does appear to have L & N on it which could be Live and Neutral in which case it may be a suppressor of some sort.  Was it across the mains input?

You could try googling some of the numbers on it.

:y googled what appers to be part no and it is an  interference suppression filter.
only problem now is finding one as everywhere ive tried (rs,maplins, cpc ect) doesn't seem to any thing that looks the same..
Here's a clearer pic of the writing on it .

Can you see it in here (http://www.espares.co.uk/parts?k=suppressor&page=2)

Machine should work without it though.

It's not a standard component so Maplin, RS, CPC are not likely to hold it.  It's a combination part that will be held by electrical appliance spares stockists.

Thanks chris they do have one listed .  When you say it should work without it what do i do with the wires leave them off or join them together or just leave the broken one in there .

I will just jump in and say no, do not join together as you appear to have live and neutral in that unit ;) ;)

OK.  So it's got spade connectors on it has it?  It looked a bit pbc mount from first glance.

Connecting them together will result in a click from the under-stairs cupboard.

As recommended above, I would support resorting to plan B until the part arrives.
