Title: Wifey's new car.
Post by: Mysteryman on 05 September 2010, 14:59:25
Pick it up on Thursday from The Car People. Renault megane coupe (tom tom) 1.6, 5 months old (10 reg), 1700 miles on the clock, £12700. I think that was a good deal. List price is £18500, but I know no one ever pays that. She is happy, so I am happy. :)

I'm expecting the usual ribbing, Fin, I know that the build quality is a standing joke. But I've had lots cars over the years and very few have been as bad as made out. Still got 30 months manufacturers warranty, after which time it will have been traded.

I have noticed them a lot of them recently on the road. A very nice vehicle. At the risk of upsetting current male owners, I do think it is a great looking women's car :D

I am with you Steve. Build quality on my Renault is way, way, way higher than that on any Omega I ever had. I have had to fix preciely nothing on my Renault in the 10 months we have owned it. Have done a fair few miles in it too.

Nice one Steve :y Sounds like you got a good deal there ;)
I had my Laguna 2 for over 8 years & apart from an auto gearbox fault it only ever needed a waterpump & battery in all the time I had it :y

It has one of those new-fangled card keys :-/  Great for security, I believe, but they look a bit delicate. I'll end up sitting on the bugger and snapping it.

I chose it, test drove it and convinced her it was a better buy than the merc C200 (4 years old, 47,000 miles, same money) she wanted.

Thank you for saying I have big testes Skruntie, but flattery will get you nowhere. ;D ;D

Don't know if it is the same but my wife's Modus needed bumper off to change a h/light bulb, a real pain of a job, but was otherwise dependable...so not really a fan but I'd probably buy Renault again.

I won't be changing any light bulbs myself, so... :P :P

Picked the car up last night and I must say first impressions are good. The level of euipment that you get as standard is brilliant. The tom tom is dead easy (thought I might have to look at the manual, but no) and all the bells and whistles are really user friendly.
I keep on walking up to it, watching it unlock, and then walking away so it locks itself ;D

How does it drive? No idea. ;D

Just had a proper look at the handbook. The front bumper needs to be fettled with to replace the front fogs. The rest are very simple: Undo two screws, slide the whole housing unit forwards, plenty of room to change any bulb :P :P :P
