Title: Samsung phones
Post by: Andy B on 13 September 2010, 22:12:29
My daughter has a phone like this ......

she's on holiday so I thought I'd have a quick at it after she got it wet.  :-?  :-?
I've failed at the first hurdle  :-? ........... how do you turn the bugger on?  :-[  ;D  ;D
I think I do know ...... I've had it on charge for 20 mins but I reckon the phone is now completely fubar'd.
It did partially start up for her last week but now does nowt.

My Samsung turns on & off by pressing & holding the right hand phone symbol (with the minus sign inside a circle underneath the phone symbol)HTH :y

Yours just has the minus sign under the phone symbol :y

Have you tried taking the battery out and leaving it in the airing cupboard for 48 hours before replacing the battery ??  Seems to work a surprising number of times !!  :)

Thanks Nige, but it's been battery-less for a fortnight or so now in the airing cupboard. It would appear it's now completely dead.  :'(

I'm afraid I think you're right. She removed the battery ASAP after it got wet. She only splashed it too, & it appears it was enough to kill it. The irony was, that when at Glasonbury, she heard a phone ringing in the toilets, it was actually down a pan - still ringing!!  :o  ;)

Andy, you said you only charged it for 20 min,it could do with some power going through it for longer. Also the battery terminals may be dirty.just a thought :y

Has the battery got wet do you think? Or did the phone not get wet enough for that? Ime battery will swell up or show signs of acid escaping if fubar, which would point to a buggered phone. But on the other hand if it's gone totally flat it may take a while to get it charged enough to turn the phone on.  :-/

If no joy I might be tempted to dismantle the phone for a peak, nout to loose... :-/

The battery looks OK. A quick look inside was what I was thinking of in the first place. After taking the back off & three tiny screws off .......... I've changed my mind. I can't see so small any more!  ;D  ;D  ;D

on another forum i use they advised to get the battery out asap ,dont try and switch on and put the phone in a tub of uncooked rice (sounds daft i know ) put the lid back on the tub and leave it for a few days...   the rice will draw the spillage and moisture from the phone..   triedc it and it does work :o

I went to attack the phone armed with my T6 Torx driver only to find they were tiny cross head screws.  ;)
It's been charging all night but still no joy. I think I can safely say it's dead.  :'(
