Title: A not so cheap caravanning weekend,
Post by: alfie on 13 September 2010, 19:11:35
Hi,a few weeks ago the papers were offering camping and caravanning at £1 per night at selected parks. So I decided to reserve a long weekend in Brean at a large park.Cost was 95P per night +£3 per night ehu.
We decided to take our dog as well, upon arrival at reception they wanted £3 pn for dog, asking what the dog got for price, answer Nothing!
Now with steam coming out of my ears, complaining voice getting louder,I asked for my prepaid balance returned to me.They agreed to that after a while,so I booked into another site just down the road. Now I know that this costed me more money than if I had stayed in the first  park, but I HATE being ripped off.
Alfie.

we have 4 dogs so make sure before we book,
most will charge a quid per dog, but insist they are well behaved,
well far better than most kids I see on campsites. ::)

Some times youv'e got to stick to your principle they are extracting the urine trying to charge for your dog. It may be a way to bump up the price on these "special deals" like airlines that chage a tenner to fly you to Spain but if you want to take luggage it's another forty quid, ten quid if you use the toilet and twenty quid if you fart on the plane :-?

Me, Mrs Dave Elite and the kids go caravaning a lot, and we find its the norm for sites to charge £2-£3 a night for a dog.

My next door neighbours took advantage of the quid a night offer plus hook up in Skeg. No dog but i'll ask if the price was hiked in any way, especially as i would've hooked & gone with them but had to work Sunday.

Just going off on a tangent here for us vanners, but I ,ve found a answer for those flapping side panels on Sun Camp type porch awnings.
Clingons instant eyelets! and 45mm rubber suction cups, clamp them onto the awning fabric that comes around the rear leg,and stick the sucker to the caravan side. Job done , works a treat.
All the bits are on ebay.

you silly buggers!!

Have been caravanning for years, somebody once asked me (in all seriousness....)  how caravanners manage to go on holiday when you can't bath or wash for a week.
He wouldn't believe my 'van had a shower, a toilet, a microwave, and a fridge freezer inside, and hot and cold water!!

All the comforts of home, now.....the days of a caravan just being a "hard sided tent" are long gone. I've got a folding caravan now, its only 13ft long, but you'd be astounded to find I've got every comfort you could want in it!

So you paid more money than the original campsite, but you hate being ripped off? I don't see the logic in that.

I would rather do that, than give the rip off site the benifit of my cash. The wife was rather surprised when I came out of the office, jumped in car and drove out the site.

That is fine then Alfie

My principles have also cost me, both financially and also friendships. But we must have a moral compass, or we are just savages.
