Hello.
Not wanting to turn this into debate similar to the recent BMW/Omega one, but, my mate works for Audi, he delivers cars all over the country, driving back in a part ex, or a hire car. Occassionally, when I'm not busy and fancy a change, I go with him.
Today we took a newish A4 2.0 T (petrol) to Leicester. Don't know what year as it had customers private plate on already. 6000 on clock though. Circa 24k minus 4k trade in value for a 54 plate Passat 2.0 petrol.
Just my opinion of course, but I just don't rate these cars at all. Yeah sure they are fine, well built it appears, probably well engineered from what I hear (have no experience of german cars myself), but there is just nothing special about them. TBH, I think they are just plain boring and bland. The acceleration was less than impressive, I don't know the power output, but my Elite (auto) will absolutely destroy it!
It wasn't very spacious, the seats weren't comfy and it was entirely unspectacular! Not just this one, but all the Audis we've delivered.
Perhaps I must be getting old (I'm only 28 though, just), but can't in a million years ever envisage paying that amount of money for a car like this?
I'm not trying to be funny, i'm a big believer and supporter of 'each to their own', but what is the attraction of these cars that people pay the money?
I'm biased of course, but the ever increasing amount of cars i have been in make me glad I have an Omega, and realise what such good quality it is, how smooth and comfortable it is, and how solid it feels.
What does anyone else think?

Audi's are boring, and I really do dislike them. There is an Audi garage in my line of sight from my front door, and I often do work for them. I have my own trade plates, so when they're short of drivers I deliver or pick up cars for them fairly locally.
I have yet to drive a single Audi that I've liked, and that's include the A3, A4, A5, A8 and Q7.
Many of the staff share this mindset. Even the sporty versions are dull. You can't deny the engines are good, it's just a shame about the rest of the car, and not to mention those awful LED lights they've fitted.
-
I thought Migs were made in Britain? In any case, german brand cars I'm referring to.

You're driving one! & it's a rebadged Opel made in Russelheim, so as German as they come I reckon ;D :y
-
All Omega's were made in Russelsheim, Germany. I believe the V6 engines were made is Ellesmere Port though, unsure if the 4 cylinder engine were also made there. Anyone know?

Oh yeah those LED lights, they're awful! Others seem to be following the trend. IMO they're chavvy. Am I right in thinking the demi-gods who control us all, whoops, I mean the EU are making them compulsory for all new cars?
-

General Motors is an American company, but ze Omega is not American, or British.

Nowt wrong with running lights. First thing I do after putting my seatbelt on is turn the switch to it's first click. I always drive with sidelights.
But yeah, those LED's look 'ok' on the A4, but shite on everything else.

Oh yeah, on the way back I saw one of the new VW coupe cars, is it the Scirocco? Not sure about German cars. It was in lime green colour, I've seen a few the same colour, must be common. Anyway, they look notoriously like a german soldiers helmet from WW2?!?! (from a certain angle)

That should be Sheissekopf mate! Google is your friend Ya? ;D :y

Test drove an a4, made me feel sick.
Fairly uninspiring and over priced, rather have a golf or passat. If at all...
Strangely though, don't mind the gay lights :-*
-
haha we all know he means german manufacturers ::) ::) ::)
i completely agree. not so long back audi was simply a poor man's bmw but there's no denying the goals have moved.
audis build quality STURDY cars.... even bringing quality build to lamborghini!!!!
buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut and its a huge, wide load but... audis are boring as foooooooooooooooooook.
not to mention every single freaking one of them is a company car diesel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they do nice shapes tho. :y :y :y :y :y

I worked for a company (Andrews Heat for Hire) that had a general policy, except for the top brass) of buying British company cars :y My Mk2 Cavalier Estate was made in Germany, according to the stickers under the bonnet..... ;D ;D ;D

Yes I'm sure he'll be along..... ::). ;D

I found the same as everyone else. I test drove an S3 a while back and it just was not any fun. Granted it did get a shift on, but when throwing it into corners it didn't give much feedback.
After that I never really considered them again.

My 2003 RS6 Avant was definately not boring,it wasn't a company car and it certainly wasn't a diesel!(I wish I still had it and could afford to run it :()
-
my mates got a 2001 rs4 v6 bi-turbo and I wouldn't class that as boring either, with the best part of 400 horses its anything but :y
-
Very unimpressed with A4's and lower (e.g. A3).
There very small inside with crap boot space and no head room.
The other thing I always find with them is the handling on the front wheel drive A4's is pretty rubbish.
There as reliable as any other car out there and are not as bulletproof as they used to be.
They also eat front suspension bushes (like the Omega lol) but, these cost a whole load more pennies!. And guess what, they use the same Bosch ABS ECU unit on the earlier ones and suffer the same failure as the Omega (and BBA and the like charge more to fix it! ;D)
-
My son has an A8 with all the refinements - I'd swap it with my Omega Elite estate any day! I think its great.
So if anyone on here thinks they have a 'boring Audi' and would like to swap my Omega for their A8, just PM me pls!!

I'm thinking of buying an Audi....
need a car for the missus to drive that's :-
Estate
interesting
RWD or 4WD
not FWD
not new
early RS4 springs to mind, or even an S4
just need to make sure it doesn't have too many toys
-
i own among other vehicles a 'proper' quattro 1983 to be presise and that is most definatly not boring,in fact against any omega i would take the q cos it handles and drives better than any omega ive driven

If you want something a bit larger try S6 or dare I say it RS6(still expensive though)
-
when my omega dies(hopefully not yet touch wood) I think an A6 v6 tdi will probably replace it

hmmmmm .... would never admit to seeing one of these :o :o [smiley=lolk.gif] - but yea, used to work for VW/Audi dealer in Edinburgh (many moons ago) and did rate them, but havent driven any recent ones but the RS8 looks tasty :y

Ok if you can cope with what is a small car, the A6 is probably a better option if a bit long in the tooth design wise (not changed much since 1997 with only a facelift in 2004)
Thats the other issue with the A8, its VERY long in the tooth (1994 design with no changes!)
I keep looking at later Jags.....and I hate Jags. :-[

hmmm ... do like a Jag, but the old XJ's (have had a couple)- actually got an eye on an XJ Sport .... hmmmm tempted :-/

Well they must be doing something right....In Germany/Austria last year they were EVERYWHERE...far more than BMW's and Merc's and out on the Autobahns they were out pacing everyone.
FAR more COMMON than Omega's though... ;D ;D ;D

The problem I have with Audis these days is not the cars themselves (which are pretty good), but the people that drive them.
It used to be the case that the car tailgating you would be a BMW. Not now, it's invariably an Audi. For some reason, the marque seems to attract aggressive drivers. :(

A6 and A8 yes, the A4 and lower are just so run of the mill sadly

I must admit that when I had my RS6 it made me drive like a tw4t because I thought everyone was in my way and was too slow! Perhaps 4.2 V8's with twin turbo's have something to answer for ;D
-
with the exception of rs series and r8, imo all audies lack of something important.. excitement or enthusiasm..
they are good cars, no doubt about that , but if I'll spend that much of money there are far better examples for the same amount, that I'll wish to be in their driver seat..

a-ha - another collector....
I've also supposedly got first refusal on a ur-quattro, but I'm still waiting...
what else is in the collection then ?
