Title: Insurance for young drivers
Post by: Vamps on 17 September 2010, 18:33:40
Was about to insure Master Vamps Saxo, he had been trawling around and discovered that if he added myself and his mum on it came to a price he could afford, paying monthly.

Checked myself and rang up to sort it, I clarified one question and suddenly the price went to just short of £2k

It seems that 'How long have you held a driving licence?' means how long since you passed your test, I made the same mistake as he did. So no insurance yet then.

Anyone know of any companies that specialise in insurance for the young, I did find one in the Internet and their cheapest was £3700 :o :o

He says that there is a company that gives big discounts but you can't use the car from about midnight to 6.00am looking for something like that.. :D

I've been through this myself. I'm 20 (dob 29/12/1989) and when I was 18 I had FX02 XAO - Omega 2.2 CDX manual group 13. My policy was with elephant.co.uk; I added my parents and I only had to pay £120 per month for 10 months, but got 12 months cover. Before this I did pay £340 per month with Swinton, but soon changed to elephant.
I now pay just over £6000 for my traders policy, so don't currently have 'private' insurance.
With elephant.co.uk the Omega currently registered to me, EN52 KSK - Omega 2.6 manual Elite comes out at £900 for me with elephant.co.uk fully comp with no named drivers, just me.
I'd try elephant, how long have you had your licenece, more than 5 years? On the elephant form, it lists named drivers as either having a licence for less than 5 years, or more. So if you've had it for more than 5 years, there's no problem really.
