Title: Our new renault
Post by: Mysteryman on 22 September 2010, 20:14:40
We have had the car nearly two weeks now. During this time, it has hardly broken down or fallen to bits at all. So up yours, knowalls. :-?

And in that time it has covered a whole 200 yards, using just 42 litres of fuel.

I hate to not agree, but someone I know had a then brand new Renault trafic van, on a 55 plate, it went through 3 gearboxes and a clutch in 15,000 miles, if that's not failing quickly I don't know what is  :o

It just doesn't seem 'sturdy' enough to me. I'm frightened of breaking anything. It's got too many, unnecessary toys fitted as standard. But I've had vauxhalls for the last 9-10 years, I guess I just expect everything to be where I'm used to it being.

The wife adores it, so.......

they are also producing meganes here..

they are #1 in sales, although parts are quite expensive (and be aware that toyota and honda has factories here and sell at the similiar prices)  Also even their ancestors rarely fail except electrics..

Nope Steve, he's a smooth changer too, they really are bad, the cars I've seen be bad too with gearboxes.

You'll have to let us know when it does fall apart - we'd all be very interested, I'm sure.

My jibe was aimed at J, but if the cap fits, then wear it, Newbie. Believe it or not, you are not the centre of the OOF universe.

Us untaxed people need to stick together at the minute  >:( It was obvious you aimed it at him, as you were talking to him :P Far from centre of the universe.

My dad bought a new Renault about 20 years ago. When it was about a year old he was driving along a dual carriageway when the drivers seat mounts broke and he was suddenly looking at the roof lining rather than the road. break knows how he got the thing stopped. He took it back the next day and got shot of it.
He had 6 Vauxhalls before the Renault and bought another   after it.

I think renault/peugeot have come on in leaps and bounds. TBH, I never listen to what other people think before I buy a car. There is no such thing as a 'good car'. Every marque has it's dogs, and if you get a bad 'un, it's just bad luck.

I had a Laguna for 2 weeks last year - worst car I've ever owned, it had electronic sensors on everything right down to tyre pressures, unfortunately, the French have no business fiddling with electronics - leave it to the Japs or the Germans.

traded it in for a far simpler 406 - but I did tell the guy about all the faults, well all I could remember anyway..............it was a lovely looking estate tho, metallic red, turbo diesel, 6-speed box, electric everything......pity  :(

I think the worst car I ever drove was the Renault Dauphine Gordini - my uncle was giving me some driving practice before my test, but the bl**dy thing was impossible!  And ugly.

On the other hand, the worst car I have ever been in was the Renault 4 my brother bought as his first car.  It broke down as he drove it off the used car lot!

residuals make the omega look like a lifetime award winner....

my mother has a big fancy model estate (Laguna?) relatively low mileage, only a bout 4-5 years old i think , just been offered about 2 grand as PX.

and indeed a quick look on autotrader does seem to imply that for a broady equivalent model, for the same price as the miggy, you get a car half the age....

OUCH
