Title: Men V. Woman????????
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 24 September 2010, 11:35:50
I have come on site this morning and wonder what has been going on! :o :o :o

fletchesmrs I think I can sympathise with what I think you are getting at in your numerous posts across two threads last night.

Yes there are a few men on here who will patronize and belittle us.  I have had that, especially in the "Help" sections when I use my long experience of car mechanics, but find my comments are ignored (because I am a women; what does she know?????)but men I have noted also are ignored.  Yes, also some of the boyish banter can be offensive, but usually it is just plain annoying like the "Post Count" issue recently were boys have been playing pranks on each other!

There are other times when I can feel uncomfortable, especially when racial and religious "feeling" are expressed, but that must apply equally to many men on here, not just the women!

So what have we really got on here fletchesmrs??

We have a male orientated site; a car forum; male domain, were most of the membership is male.  As in a pub or club they come on here and express whatever they feel like expressing, but are, unlike in a pub or club, restrained by Forum guidelines and the Admins.

We have therefore a site where us women can come on if we want to join, for whatever reason, the community on here and share the love of the Omega, mechanical things in general, along with all subjects to do with life or so it seems many a time!!! :D :D :D :D

Therefore overall fletchesmrs we contribute to this site knowing that it reflects life, and more importantly for us, is a male dominated area of life consisting of cars, sex, booze, sex, food, sex, football, sex; do I need to go on?  Just like being in a pub or club!

These are the facts then, but believe me, as many members know, I am one of the first to wave a "red card" if there is what I consider inappropiate comment.  Just like in real life there are authorities to approach, the Admins, if you feel agrieved.  This works very well and if you visit this site on a regular basis you would soon understand that fact.

Why then fletchesmrs do you feel the need to launch a sustained attack on the men of this site last night?  Why attack all, and individuals, in what I see as a pre-mediated campaign?  Most men on here are very polite, considerate, and thoughtful, with a healthy respect for women.  So why launch a mass attack?  It is grossly unfair!

This post has gone on long enough, so as you must get my drift by now, lets just say that your "approach" does us women no favours at all, and makes us seem weak and timid as we expect men to give us "special treatment"!!!

We ARE the equal of men fletchesmrs, so we do not need special treatment, and I personally do not need a fellow woman to come on here ranting to achieve some form of special consideration on a male car forum! ::) ::) ::)

And that Lizzie, shows your lack of ambition, to only be equal to men, you should want to be better, as you dont, this proves once and for all, Men are better  :P

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

To be honest I think you will get it where ever you go, if a topic is over the top and I dont like it I just ignore it whether its meant as a joke or not :)

As someone else said, if you dont like whats on change the channel.   :y

If there was a forum with mainly women I'm sure they would be slagging men off :)

I find a lot of the stuff on here very useful and glad that people have taken the time to do the how-to's and help others out.  :y

As an Omega Owner you have evey right as a woman to help, advice and comment like the rest of us do Lizzie, you also have the same rights as any one else who shares this plannet that we live on, sadly that where it end's.

It seem's to me that far too many men have forgotton how important women actually are to us.  After giving birth and spending most of the early years bring us up, it seems that men then grow a pair and start with thier attitude problems.  It starts as a teenager and in some case they grow up and get respectfull and in others they just get worse.

I will be honest I was horrified at some of the comments i 1st saw towards tracey (fletchesmrs) last night and am therefore not suprised in the slightest that she stood her ground against some of you.  I reckon if you had said hald the stuff to her in her working enviroment her fellow workmates would have decked some of you.

I actually thought the forum was better than this and had grown out of it after the last time it happened.  Women are equal in life, they may be weaker but they are not inferior.

Just because Tracey stood up for herself there was no need to turn on her, yes she got annoyed and said things and maybe added some bad language, but FFS she was pushed into it.

There is only a small % of women on here, Lizzie (bless her) has left a time or 2, Ljay wont post any more, even Debs has considered leaving, the ladies of the forum should be posting more not less.

If you think I am out of order then feel free to PM, this forum should be respectfull and balanced, bloddy hell, we even put up with Del Boy posting on here and he prefers BMW's and Merc's.    ::) :y

Well said Lizzie...  :y :y

However, there are a few, just a few, individuals who seem to make it their mission on the forum to turn every post into a sexually orientated one and/or just be generally rude .... both under the heading "banter", which it often isn't.... :(

There IS good banter on the site .. already obvious in this thread .. but there is also a lot of "hit the quote button and be rude" ... there is a major difference in the two.. which some people just don't seem to manage  :)

Just my views.. nowt else ... now where did I put those sex of spuds ...

Well having added a couple or 3 new names to my address book this week I was rather hoping to find the guides in the other order, firstly to remind me how to do it, as there are a couple of them with rather vibrant personalites and ample charms but saddly carry a little bagage with them, but if they were free of thier ties then i feel they might be open to remind me what to do.

As for part one.  Be yourself and relax, they will either like you or they wont, if you try it on you will fall at the 1st hurdle, but if you dont interest them then you wont get a 2nd chance.  Women I feel take men at face value, and looks are further down thier list than ours.

Biggest tip I can offer, if you can make them laugh then you have their attention, if you keep them laughing hopefully they come back for more.  If they laugh when you drop your trousers then you have problems.

But remember above all, be open, be honest and be respecfull and a good listener.  Plus cleanliness is paramount with all women, so wear smart but comfprtable clothes and a decent polished pair of shoes and you may well be in with a chance.

All the best, and I am sure others will add thier comments to what I have posted.  ;) :y

Are you sure we're talking about the same person Skruntie? If so, then let me open your eyes a bit wider. Firstly, she entered the forum last night with a bad attitude, she was spoiling for a fight from the first keystroke to the last & was most definately not 'pushed' into anything! Secondly, she made uncalled for derogatory statements about several members, myself included & her language was borderline by male standards let alone female. Far from being 'ganged up on' which is the way you appear to have seen it, this Haridan was the one pushing the boundaries & deserved what she got IMO, & I would even go so far as to say she got off lightly! :-/. We all banter together & call each other names & take the mick, even though we've (most of us) never met, but because we 'meet' each other electronically fairly regularly, we have an idea of where each of us is coming from, and just how far we can go without overstepping the mark? (and yes,I know this doesn't always work), but it is totally out of order for one member to sign on out of the blue & call members they know nothing about, 'Kn*b Head, Clever tw*t, break you, etc. I even tried to lighten the mood with a genuine attempt at conciliation and had it thrown back in my face with another foul mouthed rant in capital letters! :(
And please, don't anyone apologise to her or anyone else on my behalf, or make excuses for anything I may have been a part of. If there are any apologies called for from me, I will be the one who decides if it is warranted or not. There will be no apologies forthcoming where this particular 'Lady' is concerned. :-X

I am sorry Skruntie for once I cannot agree with your appraisal of this situation :'( :'(

Phil is absolutely right in his comments and observations as far as I can see, and I studied both threads she was involved in this morning with a fresh pair of eyes.  I could not believe what I was reading and questioning to myself why she would engage in such a rash of "attitude".

She was in the wrong, and the men involved purely held their ground even under intense provocation to do a lot worse than they did ::) ::) ::)

I've read Traceys rant. Dunno what kicked it off but it does'nt surprise me in the slightest. I know her well, she's a proper geezerbird, stroppy, gobby & hard as nails. I also love her to bits & despite everything would'nt have her any other way...i would'nt have her at all 'cos she's one of my best mates wife...Yes she sticks her neck out at times but in some ways she's like me. Bad side is badder than bad but good side is unbeatable. When i had my hernia done this feb. she not only drove me to & from the hospital (in MV6 style) but i was terrified, big & loud as i am those of you who know me would've been shocked. She was the total opposite of the side she showed in her post before & after & for the next few weeks asked if work were keeping me on light duties...genuine concern. She really put my mind at rest when i was at a low ebb & was totally supportive. She is the only one who can make tea exactly how i like it, i call it a Tracey tea. She is a great Mum & her children reflect this. I understand this in no way detracts from her initial post & i'm not sure i agree with her myself. She was very confrontational & i know this will in no way please everyone. Some of you think i'm ok others think i'm a bit of a cock at times & you have a point because i know i can get my knickers in a twist & let you all know about it. Some of us are like that, we all differ in character & self control.

If a male had continued un such away, a ban would eventually result I am sure. Obnoxious, rude, goading and confrontational. Most amusing.  ;D

I can live with that Richie, as long as my man regularly decorates the house, does all the running repairs necessary, looks after my car, treats me to romantic meals, gives me constant cuddles, warmth and security, with him always ensuring he places all his dirty clothes in the wash bin, oh, and puts the toilet seat down, with the garden always kept as a paradise for me, with him bringing me plenty of cups of tea whilst I read my books..................that about covers it! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I'm not at all old fashioned. I do all of the cooking and cleaning. I'm usually finished by about 9:30am

For my wife's part, she merely gets up at 6am and puts in a 10-12 hour day. Slacker.

men aren't built to last longer than 2 minutes in the sack...... less time in the sack = more hunting food time.

however as these days we can simply go to hammond's (aka morrisons) for our wild boar this means we have more time to spend on our cars. or making model aeroplanes. or drinking. :):):)

ive only just read this thread (doh!) cos tbh when i saw the title i thought it was going to be a men vs women driving debate (again lol)

I find what you say to be spot on Lizzie, i think as women on a mainly male car forum, we have to learn to have tougher skins and not be so sensitive regarding some of the things that are posted. Ive been around car forums for years and its pretty much the same everywhere. If your a woman you arent taken too seriously, BUT some of us actually do know a bit more about cars you no lads, and some of us actually love cars as much as any bloke. I tend to find on this forum, if you arent well known your posts are generally over looked or not acknowledged. (not in the tech help where most members are extremely helpful :y)
I think its the same on all car forums till your well known and been around a while though :y

ive only just read this thread (doh!) cos tbh when i saw the title i thought it was going to be a men vs women driving debate (again lol)

Exactly right Foxy, and I myself have been too sensitive (I am very sensitive by nature) at times and forget where I am until I pull myself together! ::) ::) :y :y

I do actually agree myself with alot of what both you Lizzie & Anita have said.
I have met a few women/ladies that have being very good with cars.
As for when people are new to the forum be it a  women or man I suppose it will take a while to feel like you fit in. . But isn't that the same as anywhere for most people?
I am sure I am no different with you ladies than with the guys . . If I am please tell me . . .
However I do like Pink, even Mr. Caravan Salesman also thinks I am a woman in a man's body but, My eyes seem to love women, a far better form to look at than any male. . . Surely that is a compliment?   :-* :-* :-*

Have you noticed that an angry (wo)man
can only get so far
until they reconcile the way they think things ought to be
with the way things are.
