Went very well in straight lines .. not quite so good in corners .. and it takes a decent size tractor to pull one out of a ditch ... admittedly the repairs were easy enough .. lots of parts around cheap .. :)

They were pigs all the same, we used some in the Ghost Fleet along with Hillman Avengers and both examples were bloody woeful.
That said, they were driven within an inch of their tyres on every journey, usually lugging heavily tooled up representatives of HM the Q around the delightful streets and roads of that delightful land to the north west of we generally accept as being civilisation.
Happy days.

Some really well presented cars there!! A pleasure to see :) :)

My Morris Ital was the same. ::) I'd like to see the spec that the suspension engineer was working to.
I suspect the only requirement was "to stop the underside dragging along the ground". It wasn't even successful in that aim if you piled it into a corner fast, such was the level of body roll. :o

Great pics Guy. :y Certainly brings back some memories. Great shot of the Cortina Mk2 GT engine compartment - looks like new! I used to have one in my younger days and absolutely loved it. 8-)

I bypassed the main pictures and was lusting after the Astro in the back ground :)

Surprised you had one of them Kevin! I learnt to drive in my father's estate example...didn't realise at the time that it was the car that was s**t at the corners, thought it was just me ;D

Yep. My first car. 8-). Hand-me-down from my Grandad when he "upgraded" to a Volvo 340.
Mine was a 1.7HL estate. Went quite nicely after a little fiddling with the ignition advance mechanism. Until you got to a corner, of course.
Nice simple service regime. Every couple of months - change oil, change front lower trunnions. >:(
It was a perfect student car, TBH. Could just pile the p1ssh3ads into the back by the dozen and slam the door when it was your turn to drive home from the bar. ;D

You have my sympathy, I had one too.

Ahh first cars.. was there a rule that they had to be handed down from your grand parents? Mine was my Granddad's old Austin Allegro 1100S complete with rust holes and second set of pedals in the passenger footwell (he was an ex instructor).
Ah the fun of your passengers stamping on the brakes when you weren't expecting it.. ;D
-
interesting.. many models I havent seen before..
thanks for the nice piccies :y :y
ps: I wish they could talk.. :)
-
Thanks all for your comments. Cem. I've often wondered what stories they could tell, interesting point. One of them is my "new" one that has interesting history.
I'm about to ask in gen. disc. 8-)

It was Davenport Vernon's 'Car of the Week' ..... and you may mock, but it was a brilliant car for me ;)
-
my first car was a 1963 morris 1100,handled like a dog until I changed the crossplies to radials, followed by a 1.3 marina which didn't handle at all :-X :y
