Title: My new wheel ....

.... finally arrived from Central today. Really pleased with it, especially as I got a Morad Akront for half price.  They couldn't do the rim I wanted in the size I specified, so did the Morad instead for the same money :y

Yes, Albs. 1966 Atlas to be precise. It's going on a Trike (so only 2 wheels missing, BM  ::)  ). Anyways, went for drum for looks and didn't want that much braking effort at the front --- all too easy to lock 'em up --- the rears will take care of stopping.

Dont know much about trikes so cant really comment, but are you sure ? Dont like the thought of the rear end of a trike locking up  causing it to lock ends. :-/

Nah, should be OK, Albs. The guy I am collaborating with (and is doing most of the hard work) is a bona fide engineer (got a slide rule and everything  :)  ).  Keeps bamboozling me working out the geometry and braking forces etc. But, as well as over a decade designing cars he has built more trikes than I have had hot dinners.

Will you be displaying it at Poole in the summer months on Tuesday nights ;)
Get quite a few down there......saw one this year that had the back of a Porshe 911 as the rear end. ;D

Loved my trike (miss it too)
Used a 650 Yam front end on mine with twin discs, WAY overbraked on the front, but reliant robin rear end, so balanced it up a bit.

Don't forget the piccies, mate.    What engine??

This one is a bit of a mongrel, Mike. Starting from the front:  Atlas hub, Akront rim, Unit leading links with suzi R80 yokes. Most of a phoenix frame and body, grafted onto a custom subframe for the A+ 1275 lump. Reliant tank, metro rad and midget stat housing .... oh and a 2CV alternator. Handbrake is Honda and the fuel filler is off a yacht !!!

It's got drums at the rear too, but have worked out that they are just within tolerance (if they prove a little dicey, will change over to discs) --- but should be OK -- the Atlas has a fair old drum and the mini set up is only a little smaller than the VW set up many use safely  ::)

As for pics .... well, it's still a pile of bits at the mo. Hope to get it together for MSVA in the spring, ready to ride out in the summer.

Excellant. Yep, braking indeed on the limit a bit, you MAY indeed have to upbrake the rear.
If its not telling you how to suck eggs, change bypass hose on the A+ engine before you fit it (under the head to block, about 2" ribbed hose) as its a common failure, and a bitch to fit if it goes later..........
AND make sure the Dizzy is waterproofed well, as that is a common breakdown point on A series lumps too......

A nice big 7 litre V8 should be just right HC......and oh yes.....Welcome back ..... :y :y :y :y

7 litre V8 would be great, if a tad scarey  :D

Just a thought re the little engine vs Opti's 7 litre V8 ......

100 bhp per ton is thought to be good in car circles, I have near double that with the trike, so nailing anything short of a full on supercar away from the lights is entirely possible, and will be tested I am sure. 

It's only top speed where trikes tend to lose out, aerodynamics bad, so top whack tends to be around the ton, even with way more power it's hard to get much over the ton, but for normal road use it never seems to matter.
